Cashier/Front End

Hours

: Part-time - Flexible scheduling, one weekend day required; 15-25 hours/week

Compensation

: $17/hour to start

The Rutland Area Food Co-op is the region's premier community-owned natural foods market located in Downtown Rutland. As a food cooperative, we are owned by a membership base of over 2,000 members. We aim to provide our member-owners and the greater Rutland region with affordable access to high quality, local, organic and sustainable foods and goods. At the same time, as a mission driven, community-oriented business, we proudly strengthen our region by connecting more than 100 local farms and businesses with our members.

What you'll do:

As the primary cashier during each shift, this role will provide prompt, friendly, helpful customer service, answer customer questions, and accurately process purchases. The successful applicant will enjoy creating a positive and welcoming environment for each shopper, engaging and learning about the products, and working co-operatively with staff and member-owners.

Responsibilities:

Provide superior customer service to member-owners and all customers. Operate the Co-op's point of sale system, Catapult, to process customer purchases in a friendly, accurate, and timely manner using correct prices, departments, and codes. Resolve customer concerns when possible and refer other issues to appropriate staff. Follow cash handling security procedures according to established guidelines. Stock/maintain coffee and kombucha stations, and other areas near register. Maintain shopper and register supplies. Keep front end in a clean orderly condition. Ensure maintenance, cleanliness, and organization of all work areas, storage, and equipment. Comply with all Co-op policies and procedures that ensure compliance with Vermont Department of Liquor Control guidelines. Perform other duties as assigned.

Proficient math skills Cash handling experience strongly preferred Must be punctual, dependable, and show the ability to apply judgment, interpret and follow directions, solve problems and seek guidance when appropriate Some experience or knowledge of Co-operative values as well as local, organic, and sustainable foods is strongly preferred

Environmental Conditions

Works standing for long periods of time in a fast-paced environment with a focus on engaging customer service May work in environments of extreme cold and extreme heat for short periods of time
