JOB SUMMARY

At Houston Methodist, the Cashier position is responsible for handling cash, credit and other forms of payment transactions in retail food operation areas. This position accurately and efficiently completes transactions, provides receipts and makes change. The Cashier position is responsible for preparing a cashier\'s report and depositing revenues following established Cash Handling Procedures. This position also provides support and assists in other areas of the retail food operation including the food service areas, dining room and may operate relevant Food Services equipment. The Cashier position may be asked to assist in other food and nutition service areas, as needed.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responds positively to requests for assistance from customers, employees and visitors, using clear and professional communication to facilitate problem resolution. Responds to customer satisfaction, both urgent and routine requests, within established guidelines of the department. Escalates customer\xe2\x80\x99s complaints to Supervisor/Manager. (EF)
• Conducts self in a manner that is congruent with cultural diversity, equity and inclusion principles. Contributes towards improvement of department scores for employee engagement, i.e. peer-to-peer accountability. (EF)

SERVICE - 20% * Changes and updates the menu boards. Maintains stock levels on all snack items in service area, i.e. beverages, chips, candy, etc. (EF)

• Maintains, cleans and organizes service and equipment areas. (EF)
• Contributes towards improvement of department score for patient satisfaction, through peer-to-peer accountability to service standards. (EF)

QUALITY/SAFETY - 20% * Accurately completes Cashier\'s end of shift report. (EF)

• Ensures logs are complete for Doctors, Volunteers, meal tickets, and other Charge Tickets according to procedures. May assist with food service, maintaining proper temperatures logs, coolers, etc. (EF)
• Maintains a safe environment, following all policies and procedures for safety, hazardous material, emergency preparedness and HIPAA. Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding hazards identified in the workplace. (EF)

FINANCE \xe2\x80\x93 30% * Utilizes resources with cost effectiveness and value creation in mind. Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks, assisting coworkers as needed. Practices cost control through proper use of supplies and equipment. (EF)

• Reports/shares financial and/or operational metrics processes as directed by management, i.e. error/cancelation/voids. (EF)
• Accurately processes all cash register transactions. Gives proper change and a legible receipt. Consistently stays within the short/over Cash Handling guidelines and policy. (EF)

GROWTH/INNOVATION - 10% * Contributes ideas towards improving the efficiency and effectiveness of department processes, based on the daily huddle, providing opportunities to recommend innovative solutions to management. (EF)

• Seeks opportunities to identify self-development needs and takes appropriate action by participating in in-services programs and continuing education. Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management. Completes and updates the My Development Plan on an on-going basis. (EF)

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

o High School diploma or equivalent education (examples include: GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education, etc.)

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

o One year experience operating a cash register in a food service establishment, or other equivalent situation. For HM internal employee, six months of work experience at Houston Methodist

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

o Accredited food handler training course approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TXDSHS) or by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

o Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations

o Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security

o Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles

o Capable of using basic math

o Being a team player, cooperating and assisting others

o Basic calculator knowledge

o Knowledge to comply with the local Food Ordinances
