Are you ready to help ensure the success of a dynamic program that directly impacts the health and well-being of licensees as well as protects the public? As a Case Manager, you will work with Montana Assistance Program (MAP) participants to fulfill the mission of the program. The program works for the department on behalf of 6 licensing boards and 1 licensing program. The program is available to over 60,000 licensed Montana providers who may be suffering from substance abuse, mental, or physical issues. This role serves as the liaison for all licensees enrolled in the program (participants) by maintaining open dialogue and ensuring compliance with monitoring agreements. The role plays a significant part in ensuring that the public is protected, and licensees can re-enter or maintain their professional licenses.

Position Overview:




As Case Manager, you will work with participants of the Montana Assistance Program to ensure their compliance with monitoring agreements. This oversight is a collaborative effort between the case manager and participant working to ensure successful completion of the required milestones. The role also identifies inconsistencies in procedures and program activities with colleagues to ensure the Montana Assistance Program is consistent in its work and successful in its mission.

This is a non-treatment position.



Essential Functions:




The Case Manager will:

Assist the Program Coordinator

by tracking and monitoring participants in the Montana Assistance Program to ensure compliance with monitoring agreements which are entered into by the program and the participant. Case managers do not create monitoring agreements.

Ensure accurate and detailed tracking of participants

and documents participant files with supporting information so that the department or licensing boards have a complete picture of participant compliance to consider when making decisions.

Establish relationships

with participants, treatment providers, and others to ensure the success of participants.

Evaluate identified problems and seeks solutions

for participants to ensure they are compliant with monitoring agreements.

Work with colleagues

to ensure consistent treatment, monitoring, and documentation of participant records.

Report compliance issues

related to participants and appropriately escalate issues to the Program Coordinator for further evaluation.

Required Skills and Competencies:




Candidates must demonstrate the following abilities:

Ability to Manage Multiple Priorities:

Case Managers oversee numerous participants in the Montana Assistance Program to ensure compliance with requirements. Including but not limited to tracking participant progress and conducting regular follow-ups with participants, treatment providers, and others where appropriate.

Implement Laws, Regulations, and Contract Provisions:

Understanding of occupational licensing laws and statutory program requirements in association with a working knowledge of applicable federal regulations. Ability to read, communicate, and ensure participant compliance with monitoring agreements (contracts).

Ensure Compliance, Document Records & Prepare Reports:

Efficiently and accurately track participants and monitor completion of requirements. Accurately input, update, and manage records in various databases. Ensure data is accurate and up to date. When necessary, timely report violations of terms and conditions with guidance from the Program Coordinator. Ability to create easily understood monitoring reports for the overseeing program and/or licensing board.

Handle Sensitive Information:

Able to review, work with, and ensure that confidential information is not improperly disseminated. Ensure information handling complies with all applicate state and federal laws in addition to department policies and procedures.

Problem Solving and Critical Thinking:

Accurately identify, define, and understand the root cause of problems or challenges. Collaboratively works with the MAP Coordinator, Care Coordinator, and other Case Manager to ensure decisions are based on data, evidence, and analysis, not assumptions or bias.

Interpersonal & Communication Skills:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to concisely summarize participant records and issues to internal and, when appropriate, external parties. A history of working with people and exhibiting emotional intelligence is vital to success of the Case Manager role. Ability to convey a positive and professional image on behalf of the department and program in all interactions. At times, may be called to provide testimony on behalf of the program in license discipline proceedings, civil, or criminal litigation as required by law.

Team Focused:

Building and maintaining positive and productive relationships not only within the department and program but with participants to ensure their success.

Technology Proficiency:

Ability to utilize digital systems and databases to ensure proper tracking in compliance with state retention policies. Experience with case tracking software is preferred. Skills should include, but are not limited to Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Etc.).

Visual Communication:

Skilled in developing professional presentation materials that convey complex information in an accessible and visually compelling manner, ensuring audience understanding and engagement.

Presentation Expertise:

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in public settings by delivering clear, engaging, and informative presentations tailored to diverse audiences, including staff, leadership, and external stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education and Experience)



Prior directly related work experience with enforcement of laws, regulations, or tracking other requirements. A degree in business or a closely related field may supplement relevant professional experience but is not a substitute for demonstrated skills and competencies in the areas noted above. Equivalent combinations of education and directly related experience will be considered.

This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective on July 1, 2026.
