This position is responsible for all carpentry work and repairs at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center. Responsibility will include new construction and day to day maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications
Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:
Four years of experience or training in the carpentry trade.

Job Duties and Other Information
Responsible for the supervision, training and directing of ten to fifteen carpenter Inmates. Carpentry work consists of building, constructing and maintaining the Institution. Building and renovation of new offices and living quarters, doors and windows, and installing razor wire on perimeter fences. Pour concrete and framing. All materials for maintaining or building are figured and estimated by the Carpenter Foreman. All wooden gates, wooden fences, barns, and steel work such as metal catch basins for sewer, sally port gates, metal gates, and fences are also included.

Appointment Type: JOB APPOINTMENT
  • A job appointment is a temporary job lasting up to four years; however, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
  • This position may also be filled as a probational appointment if a non-temporary position becomes available in the recruitment process.
  • If filled by probation, a permanent classified LA State employee, if selected, may be required to accept a probational appointment.
