Job Description

This position requires a current Oklahoma (CLEET) Peace Officer Certification; supervises the provision of public safety and law enforcement services for the OCCC Campus Police Department; directs, monitors, and evaluates both routine and critical police operations; patrols campus; takes calls and reports; supervises/conducts and evaluates the training and performance of new and incumbent campus police officers; utilizes positive inter-personal skills and behaviors to motivate, lead, and evaluate employees; demonstrates effective verbal and written communication; and works effectively and efficiently with supervisors, employees, and all other aspects of the College community to accomplish OCCC public safety goals.

This position is safety sensitive and subject to mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing.

Minimum Education/Experience
High school diploma/GED



Minimum (2) years' of continuous law enforcement experience



Current CLEET Peace Officer Certification, COPS Certification, or CLEET recognized reciprocity for Law Enforcement certification from another state

The work is medium work which requires the person in this position to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

This position requires the person to frequently move about the various OCCC campuses.

This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to administration, faculty, staff, students, guests, and others to perform the essential functions of the position; must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.

This position requires the person to occasionally ascend/descend ladders, scaffolding, ramps, stairs, etc. to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently position self to move, lift, push, pull, operate and/or inspect equipment, to assist individuals, and/or apprehend subjects.

This position requires the person to frequently position self to access materials that may be above head or at ground level.

This position requires the person to use upper and lower body to exert force up to 100 pounds to grasp, push, pull or lift materials or equipment.

This position requires the person to perceive attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer and/or other equipment and mobile devices to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of hands, wrists, and/or fingers.

This position requires the person to judge, observe, and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned, to make general observations, and/or operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.



Work is performed both indoors and outdoors; when working outdoors, subject to extreme cold (temperatures below 32 degrees) and extreme hot temperatures (temperatures above 100 degrees); and the workplace and College vehicles are tobacco-free settings.



May be exposed to infectious diseases and/or ambient noise levels; frequently exposed to hazards such as: vibrations; close proximity to moving mechanical parts and moving vehicles; electrical current; working on scaffolding and high places; exposure to high heat; exposure to chemicals, oils, and/or other cutting fluids; exposure to fumes, odors, dusts, mists, and gases; and occasionally wears a respirator.

Frequently performs essential functions in close quarters; crawl spaces; shafts; small, enclosed rooms; and narrow aisles or passageways.

Occasionally required to function around prisoners, mental patients, or agitated, hostile individuals.

Work is spent most of the time working in a physically threatening environment that requires making life and death decisions for self and others.

The Campus Police Department operates 24 hours per day each day of the year; may be assigned hours to meet the needs of the Department; and shift assignments are not permanent but may involve evenings, night time, and weekend assignments.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree



Minimum (5) years' continuous law enforcement experience at a college or university including police supervisory experience.



Additional Mental Health Crisis Intervention training;



bilingual;



CPR certification;



Intoxilyzer 8000 qualification;



CLEET Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) Instructor, and Custody and Defensive Tactics (CDT) Instructor certifications.
Required Training
Serve in a Critical role in the OCCC emergency management plan. An employee in this position must complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within the first 90 days of employment (subject to class availability) and on a continuing basis as required. The specific courses to be completed within 90 days of employment in this position include:

Successful completion of OCCC Campus Police Field Training Program



Annual Campus Security Authority (CSA) Training



Quarterly compliance training as assigned by institution
Work Hours
OCCC Campus Police Department operates continuously 24 hours each day of the year, utilizing personnel over three shifts.



Assignment of hours for this position will be to best meet the needs of the OCCC Campus Police Department.



Shift assignments are not permanent, may involve evening, night time and weekend assignments.
