Camps Manager

Marbles Kids Museum is a vibrant, nonprofit children\xe2\x80\x99s museum and IMAX Theatre located in the heart of downtown Raleigh. Marbles has been sparking imagination, discovery, and learning through play since opening its doors in 2007. Marbles\xe2\x80\x99 serves a diverse population of families, school groups, and community organizations through award-winning play-based exhibits, summer camps, IMAX documentaries, feature movies, and special events year-round. Today Marbles ranks among the top family destinations in North Carolina providing learning experiences for children with creative programs, and larger-than-life movies.

The opportunity

Marbles is looking for an energetic, organized Camps Manager! The managers responsibilities will include developing, delivering, and evaluating engaging camp programming and facilitating camp operations. Operating camps includes but, is not limited to hiring, supervising, training, and coaching camp hosts; developing coordinating activities, and site and material preparation.

Job Responsibilities

Camps (Summer, school\xe2\x80\x99s out, track out, and overnight)

  • Develop engaging camp programming and activities for all camps aligned with Marbles core initiatives.
  • Oversee and lead all camp operations, programming, and planned activities including arts, crafts, sports, games, camping, and hobbies, with a focus on the safety and well-being of the campers.
  • Oversee and direct the camp opening and closing duties.
  • Communicate with caregivers, handle camper complaints, and resolve camper issues.
  • Manage the camps before and aftercare.
  • Schedule, manage, and train camp hosts through orientation, meetings, and in-the-moment coaching to provide an exceptional camp experience.
  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator to recruit and train volunteers (Teen Play Corps) through orientation, meetings, and in-the-moment coaching.
  • Maintain organization and inventory of camp storage spaces and materials; Replace camp materials and consumables as needed.
  • Facilitate the greeting of new arrivals and introduce them to other campers; explain camp and facility rules.
  • Enable engaging, hands-on, play-based learning experiences that foster relationships with and between campers.
  • Administer and develop a safe carpool experience to ensure efficiency.
  • Oversee the administration of serving premade meals or packed lunches ensuring allergy provisions are followed.
  • Set up camp spaces in a brand-aligned way that supports play.
  • Evaluate current and future camp programing.
Other
  • Coordinate, develop, deliver, and evaluate off-site programs assigned by supervisor.
  • Collaborate with other learning programs and event leads to assist in planning, delivery, and execution of other learning programs and events.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by manager.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Recruit, interview, hire, and trains new Camp Hosts and assist with Teen Play Corp selection process.

Oversee the daily workflow of the camp team.

Oversee performance, conduct performance evaluations for Camp Hosts and Learning Engagement Hosts.

Provide ongoing coaching and conduct monthly check-ins with Camp Hosts and Learning Engagement Hosts to ensure outstanding performance, growth, and feeling valued and supported.

Handles discipline and termination of team members in accordance with company policy and the People Team.

Experience and Skill Requirements

1-2 years of experience in a customer service setting preferred.

2-3 years of experience with children in direct care settings.

Proven ability and desire to maintain a helpful, friendly, playful, customer-first demeanor in a busy work environment.

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple functions, projects, and timelines collaboratively across teams in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

First Aid and CPR training a plus.

2 years of management experience preferred in a direct care setting.

3+ years of planning and delivering high-quality, hands-on, play-based programs.

Strong guest engagement skills, particularly with families and young children.

Ability to be a role model for high-quality guest service, demonstrate flexibility and manage staff in a fast-paced environment where demands often change.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Demands

Walking, standing, stooping, bending, and reaching.

Ability to stand for long periods of time.

Occasionally using a ladder, and going up and down stairs

Must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

Work Environment

Fast-paced, highly-visited, collaborative 6-7 day operation in a guest-facing role across multiple museum functions requiring high levels of flexibility and collaboration.

Occasional exposure to noisy and crowded atmosphere.

May be needed to walk between two buildings with some outdoor exposure.

Flexible schedule required, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
