Filigree Bakery is hiring for their brick and mortar location. Filigree Bakery is a woman and minority owned bakery in Broad Ripple. Founded by an award winning pastry chef, we are passionate about creating high-quality pastries and baked desserts while fostering a supportive, creative, and growth-oriented work environment. In additional to our brick and mortar location, Filigree Bakery is a full-time vendor at Broad Ripple Farmers Market and a vendor at popup events such as The Peony Festival and Penrod Arts Fair.

Overview

As a Bakery Decorator at Filigree Bakery, you'll be responsible for creating and decorating cakes, tarts, parties, and special-ordered items. Using your artistic talents, you'll ensure that every detail is just right, producing high-quality, visually stunning, and delicious treats for our customers. Prefer someone with wedding cake experience. Comfortable with buttercream and fondant.

Compensation

Responsibilities

Assemble, fill, and decorate cakes, tarts, and select pastries Build, ice, and decorate bakery items according to standard procedures and business demand. Merchandise and showcase products in the display case, ensuring freshness and proper rotation. Ensure all decorations are completed within specified timeframes while maintaining high-quality standards. Design custom cakes and special orders based on customer preferences. Deliver excellent customer service and assist with orders. Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment and ensure equipment is properly maintained, adhering to food safety and sanitation guidelines. Perform opening, mid, and closing duties, ensuring accurate signage and pricing. Assist in food preparation as needed, including baking, cooking, and assembling various food products. Perform other bakery-related duties as needed.

Experience

Minimum of 6-12 months of professional bakery experience. Prior experience as a bakery decorator is preferred. Prior experience in macaron production is preferred. Wedding cake design and decoration experience is preferred. Strong cake and pastry decorating skills, including piping, flowers, and borders. Knowledge of color theory for blending buttercream and coordinating palettes. Experience working with various icings such as Swiss buttercream, American buttercream, ganache, cream cheese icing, whipped cream, meringues, and Chantilly. Ability to follow recipes, manage time efficiently, and stay organized. Basic math skills for recipe conversions and modifications. Previous experience in food handling or culinary roles is preferred. Familiarity with food production processes within a kitchen environment is beneficial. Knowledge of food safety practices, knife handling, and equipment safety skills, and regulations is essential. Strong attention to detail and creativity in design are critical for success in this role. Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and as a team or critical for success in this role.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Standing/walking for 6-8 hours per shift. Frequent bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching. Exposure to cold environments (freezers/refrigerators) and warm baking areas. Ability to work in wet and dry conditions. Flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed. Use of tools and equipment such as knives, mixers, and commercial bakery equipment.

Pay: $16.00 - $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 - 40 per week
