Position Summary
As the Cafe Assistant, you are responsible for various food preparation, cooking, and cleaning tasks to ensure the kitchen remains efficient in creating and delivering dishes for patrons.
Major Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Completes all tasks, in order, on the prep list from the Executive Chef or Food Service Coordinator
Labels and stocks all ingredients on easily accessible shelves
Washes, chops, and sorts ingredients like fruits, vegetables, and meats
Measures quantities of seasonings and other cooking ingredients
Assists with stocking and setting up the kitchen stations
Prepares food, including prepping the ingredients, and cooking main dishes, desserts, appetizers, and snacks
Cleans dishes, washes cooking utensils and cookware, takes out the trash, and sanitizes the kitchen
Adheres to all relevant nutrition and sanitary regulations and standards
Tracks ingredient inventory and collaborates with other kitchen and management staff to order as needed
Takes, fulfills, and serves visitor orders
Handles cash and credit transactions with customers; issues change, receipts, and refunds as necessary
Counts money in cash drawers at the beginning & end of shifts; ensures amounts are correct and there is adequate change
Maintains the agreed standards of cafe cleanliness and presentation
Ensures cafe delivers in a timely and efficient manner
Provides customer-focused service to all guests
Contributes positively to visitor experiences
Ensures pricing is correct
Other duties as assigned
Qualities and Experience
High school or equivalent diploma
Previous experience in similar role
Knowledge of Basic Food Hygiene
Competencies
Interfaces on a daily and regular basis with the culinary team, volunteers, and guests or customers, as well as members of the broader staff
Ability to work well with a team
Ability to take direction and follow procedures
Physical Requirements
Requires walking, primarily on a level surface, for periods throughout the day
Ability to reach above shoulder height, below the waist, or lift as required throughout the workday
Frequently lifts up to 25 pounds and up to 50 pounds occasionally
Occasionally requires exposure to warehouse environment
Must wear protective gear where/when required

Pay: $19.00 - $25.00 per hour
