About the Role
VTech is looking for a small, tight-knit crew of reliable Cable / Fiber Technicians to support ongoing projects with local ISPs. This is hands-on field work, not a desk job. If you're comfortable on ladders, don't mind the Vermont weather, and take pride in clean, quality installs, this is for you.
We're building and maintaining critical broadband infrastructure for the largest local providers in the state. You'll be working directly in neighborhoods and commercial areas across the Burlington region.
What You'll Be Doing
Install, troubleshoot, and repair fiber drops to residential and small business customers
Mount and connect ONTs, modems, and Wi-Fi routers inside customer premises
Perform aerial and ground installs, including working off ladders
Run, secure, and neatly dress cabling (fiber, coax, Cat6)
Test signal levels, verify connectivity, and close out jobs with proper documentation
Communicate professionally with customers on site and represent VTech and the ISPs well
Work with a lead tech / supervisor to handle daily work orders and priorities
Follow safety procedures at all times (PPE, ladder safety, traffic/roadside awareness, etc.)
Minimum Requirements
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to the yard / job sites
Comfortable on ladders up to 20 ft and working outdoors year-round
Able to lift and carry 50-75 lbs (ladders, reels, equipment)
Comfortable with basic hand tools (drill, impact, screwdrivers, snips, etc.)
Strong work ethic: on time, dependable, willing to learn, zero drama
Professional attitude with customers and coworkers
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Ability to pass a background check (as required for ISP work)
Preferred Experience (Nice to Have but Not Necessary)
1+ year experience as a cable, fiber, or telecom field tech
Experience with:
Residential fiber/coax installs
ONTs, modems, Wi-Fi routers, mesh systems
Basic signal testing (light levels, modem levels, etc.)
Familiarity with Burlington Area
Basic understanding of networking (IP, gateways, SSIDs, etc.)
We are willing to train the right person if you show up, work hard, and pick things up quickly.
Schedule & Compensation
Full-time hours (generally Monday-Friday, some optional overtime/weekend work)
1099 contractor role
Pay: ~$25-$40+ per hour depending on experience and productivity
Consistent work as long as performance and reliability are solid
