Position Overview
Reporting to the
Production Control Manager
, the Buyer is responsible for managing make-to-print procurement and ensuring timely, cost-effective purchases to support manufacturing operations. This role is key to keeping production running smoothly by coordinating with suppliers, interpreting engineering drawings, and ensuring on-time delivery.
What You'll Do
Make-to-Print Procurement
- Interpret 2D engineering drawings (mainly in Solid Edge) to purchase fabricated, machined, coated, and outsourced parts.
Supplier Management
- Vet new vendors, solicit multiple quotes per schedule of authority, and maintain strong supplier relationships.
Order Execution
- Review requisitions, issue purchase orders, and track status to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Collaboration
- Partner closely with engineering, production control, and manufacturing to align material needs with project schedules.
Problem-Solving & Cost Control
- Resolve supply issues quickly, expedite as needed, and seek cost-efficient procurement solutions.
Recordkeeping & Compliance
- Maintain vendor files, monitor deliveries, and process returns or replacements for non-conforming materials.
What You Bring
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field,
OR
2-4 years of applicable experience in manufacturing procurement, machining, or supply chain roles.
Drawing Interpretation
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings for accurate make-to-print ordering.
ERP/MRP Knowledge
- Comfortable working within ERP systems to manage purchasing activity.
Analytical & Detail-Oriented
- Strong math and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
Communication Skills
- Clear, professional communicator who can work effectively with suppliers and internal teams.
Adaptability
- A self-starter with a sense of urgency who thrives in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Nice to Have
Certifications in supply chain or procurement (CSCP, CPIM, ISM) are not required but may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Experience in
MS Dynamics 365
, would be very valuable.
