Job Description


This is an exciting opportunity to join the Predictive Analytics department within the Auto Center of Excellence (COE) as a Business Intelligence (BI) data engineer on the Data Operations team. This is a senior level role and will serves as lead design analyst on large, complex, and high impact data solution projects for our auto COE product business partners. The role of the BI data engineer acts as a liaison between IT stakeholders and our auto COE product business partners. It requires an experienced BI data engineer with sound insurance knowledge and highly technical (GCP, Big Query, Python, etc.) skillset as well as experience in creating efficient semantic (business information layer) data architecture/pipelines to help accelerate our business/information data capabilities for the auto COE. This role also includes mentoring junior team members, and informally arbitrates among business and IT stakeholders when conflicts arise. Responsible for one or more of the following depending on project scope and business needs: business data requirements, self-service (business information layer) architecture, design, development, and support of business data solutions.

The list below is what this role would be responsible for:

  • Developing self-service data capabilities for our auto COE product business partners to understand in-market product performance and make accurate decisions:
  • Collaborates with business partners and IT in the development of enterprise self-service (business information) metrics and dimensions
  • Collaborates with data governance to ensure metrics and dimensions adhere to enterprise standard definitions
  • Collaborates with IT business partners on ensuring data quality of auto COE PIT data
  • Collaborates with BI team on data quality initiatives in order to ensure accuracy and integrity of our data solutions for our business partners.
  • Collaborates with DSE team members on self-service data architecture ensuring it provides our business partners with the most efficient process to accessing and utilizing self-service data.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to identify opportunities where data can improve business decisions, operations, processes, and results. Fosters a strong understanding of the business strategy, goals, and operations to anticipate business needs and guides business users in formulating business requirements.
  • Establish architecture patterns, design standards and best practices to accelerate delivery of data solutions. Ensure that solutions are scalable, resilient, and perform as per business expectations.
  • Conduct design reviews and lead design review meetings. Ensure that data solutions adhere to data architecture standards, data governance policies, and meet audit and compliance needs. Maintain a backlog of technical debt (deviations from architecture standards) and look for opportunities to remediate.
  • Develop business case for new technology investments. Make recommendations for investments based on business need and architecture fit. Assist with maintaining technology roadmap and reference data architecture based on business and IT trends.
  • Design semantic (business information) layer, virtualization layer, and ensure use of appropriate BI client tools.
  • Develops complex code, scripts, Extract Transform Load (ETL) mappings (this role does not do actual ETL work), stored procedures, universes, queries, reports, dashboards, and applications for critical high impact projects.
  • Participate in annual and project-based planning; provide estimates; prepare plans for retirement of systems and migration of systems infrastructure.
  • Mentor junior team members and new employees.
Education/License/Designation Requirements
  • Bachelor\'s or Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Finance, Business, or a related field
Specialized Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Extensive experience with planning and forecasting tools/systems
  • Advanced level of business acumen in Business Operations and Finance
  • Advanced proficiency with BI Tools (SAS, SQL, Tableau, Essbase)
  • Proven ability to mentor others
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Advanced analytical and financial model-building skills
  • Advanced P&C insurance experience
  • Advanced experience leading projects and consulting with leadership
  • Intellectual curiosity and drive for continuous improvement; track record of taking initiative
