Business Editor

Janesville, WI, US, United States

Job Description

Business Editor - Adams MultiMedia

We're launching a new publication in Rock County designed to cover the intersection of

business, civic leadership and community life.

Our focus isn't inside-baseball reporting for CEOs - it's about showing residents how business decisions, economic development and entrepreneurship affect their daily lives. Think new restaurants, workforce shifts, infrastructure, local investments and the people making Rock County thrive. Publishing every day online, once or twice per week via email and every other month in print. This is not a legacy newsroom job. This is a

founding role

where you'll help shape a modern, multi-platform publication from day one.

What You'll Do

?

Set the editorial voice

for consumer-friendly business and civic publication.

? Report on

local business news

(openings, expansions, workforce changes, small business profiles) and cover

civic and economic issues

(development projects, workforce needs, real estate, and the intersections of business and public policy).

? Build a

network of contributors

- freelancers, subject-matter experts, and community voices.

? Translate business and civic issues into

clear, engaging stories

that residents actually want to read - no jargon necessary.

?

Collaborate with our sales/events team

to create editorial calendars that align with sponsorship opportunities (without compromising independence).

?

Be present in the community

- chambers, ribbon cuttings, city meetings, networking events - to bring those stories back to our audience and

represent

our

business.

? Experiment with

new formats

(short video, Q&A newsletters, explainers, data-driven graphics).

What Success Looks Like

? Business owners see the publication as a

trusted partner and platform.

? The Editor becomes a

visible leader in Rock County

: moderating panels, building relationships, shaping the civic conversation.

? Growth in subscribers, social engagement, and newsletter open rates - because the stories are relevant and practical.

What You Bring

? Curiosity about how

business and community intersect

.

? A knack for breaking down complex issues (TIF districts, workforce trends, zoning changes) into

understandable terms

.

? Experience in reporting, editing, or content leadership - but with an entrepreneurial streak.

? Comfort working in multiple formats: digital, newsletter, social, and yes, print.

? A community-first mindset: you believe journalism works best when it's

connected, engaged and accountable.

Perks

? Be the

editorial leader

of a new publication with local backing.

? Opportunity to build your own network of contributors and coverage priorities.

? Visibility across the region as a

business and civic leader

.

? Competitive salary and benefits package.

? Backing from a multi-market media company with resources in digital, print and events.

To apply, please submit a resume and writing samples.
