Job Description

This is skilled technical field inspection work in securing and maintaining regulatory compliance with municipal and other applicable codes and ordinances governing all phases of construction involving industrial, commercial, and residential structures. Work includes responsibility for the review, evaluation, and processing of architectural, building and engineering plans and specifications; inspection of the construction, alteration and repair activities on building sites and sign installations; and evaluation of existing facilities to ensure regulatory compliance with Florida Building Codes and local City ordinances, and all technical and safety standards. Work requires the exercise of considerable sound judgment, firmness, tact, and initiative, and is performed with considerable independence. Employees working in this classification, pursuant to a Labor Agreement, are eligible for additional pay incentives for each State of Florida Inspector and/or Plans Examiner certifications that are maintained for other trades.

Salary:

$33.06 - $48.61 Hourly

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications.

Applicants must:

Have a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency. Possess and continue to maintain a valid Driver License.

Possess and continue to maintain a standard license from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) for Building Inspections. Possess three years of experience as a building inspector, or in building construction as a master craftsman, contractor, journeyman, builder, or supervisor.

Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

Desirable Qualifications.

Preferred applicants:

Have considerable experience in construction.

Have more than five (5) years of experience as a Certified Building Inspector for a government entity or private provider, or in building construction as a contractor, construction journeyman, builder, or construction supervisor, as required per Florida Statute 468.

Are skilled in the use of a personal computer.
