GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The primary role of the Broadband Specialist is to ensure OMU telecommunications customers experience an outstanding level of support which includes resolving service effecting issues, answering technical questions, monitoring network performance, performing equipment installations, and providing general troubleshooting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Works directly with customers on service related issues such as network connectivity, internet speeds, Wi-Fi access, voice quality issues, virus and/or malware detection, and other service effecting issues. Contact is primarily via phone, however site visits may be necessary to resolve issues. Assists Network Administrator as necessary with network monitoring, equipment configuration, and troubleshooting. Assist with commercial and residential service installations as necessary. Protects organizations, value by keeping customer proprietary information confidential. Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; participating in professional organizations. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc., plus 0 to 6 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS



Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS



Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS



Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats.
