Job Description


Brucemore \xe2\x80\x93 a Cedar Rapids area non-profit, historic site, and regional tourism leader \xe2\x80\x93 is looking for a part-time Bookkeeper to join their team for an average of 10 to 15 hours per week. This position has flexible scheduling options as well as potential for some hybrid work.
The position is responsible for weekly data entry, monitoring, and reporting on the financial assets of Brucemore. This includes applying accounting principles to entry of financial data, preparing accurate and timely financial reports and statements, and ensuring appropriate accounting control procedures in collaboration with other staff, and a contracted controller and audit team. The Bookkeeper maintains and balances payables and revenue entries, facilitates budget preparation and tracking, and manages and maintains all payroll functions in compliance with established processes. This role works with the Director of Business and Development to track, forecast, and report on organizational financial status to internal and external constituents.
The desired candidate must have a high degree of proficiency in accounting software and computer programs; have a high attention to accuracy and detail; and be able to work independently with little supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES TO INCLUDE: BOOKKEEPING

  • Maintain records of financial transactions by establishing accounts and entering transactions
  • Review and approve accounts payable and revenue entries for accuracy
  • Process accurate and timely payments
  • Process accounts receivable and prepare statements
  • Process payroll semi-monthly utilizing payroll software and creating accounting entry
  • Maintain filing system in accordance with audit requirements
  • Comply with and help enforce adherence to standard accounting procedures
  • Serve as resource for staff on use of accounting software and chart of accounts
  • Assist controller with monthly journal entries, annual 1099 preparation, and bank reconciliation

REPORTING
  • Prepare financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information for internal and external constituents
  • Assist with annual audit and Form 990 information gathering and reporting
  • Track and report on restricted funding expenses aligned to grant requirements
  • Create and maintain role related guidelines and standard operating procedures

BUDGET AND BANKING OVERSIGHT
  • Track bank accounts, deposits, and balances
  • Assist with funds transfer determination and tracking
  • Assist with annual budget preparation and monthly budget-to-actual reporting
  • Provide input on budget and cash flow processes

OTHER
  • Assist with other duties as assigned and apparent to ensure a pleasant experience for visitors to Brucemore including volunteers, Board, committee members, and service people and to fulfill Brucemore\xe2\x80\x99s mission and goals.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • An Associate\xe2\x80\x99s degree in accounting or finance required; a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree preferred or relevant experience.
  • Previous work experience with accounts payable, general ledger, payroll, and non-profits preferred.
  • Computer proficiency in accounting software, database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs required.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail to ensure quality of work.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities to complete work in a timely manner and under pressure to meet established deadlines and goals.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively work through challenges that might arise.

HOURS: 10 \xe2\x80\x93 15 hours per week; flexible schedule options available Monday - Friday
ABOUT BRUCEMORE Brucemore is a historic site and community cultural center, owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and operated in co-stewardship locally with Brucemore, Inc. The organization is responsible for the stewardship of seven historic structures and 26 acres of gardens and grounds, in addition to thousands of artifacts, works of art, furnishing elements, and archival resources.
