Kerith House is a boutique winery, farm, and tasting room dedicated to producing exceptional wines and providing memorable guest experiences. We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable in-house bookkeeper to manage our financial records and support the continued growth of our business.
Position Summary
The In-House Bookkeeper will be responsible for the day-to-day financial health of the winery and tasting room operations. Reporting directly to the Winery Owner & the Chief Winemaker and Operations Officer. This role ensures accurate tracking of inventory, sales, expenses, and compliance with specific industry regulations.
Core Responsibilities
Financial Record Keeping:
Accurately record all financial transactions, including sales from the tasting room (POS system integration), vineyard and farm operations, and wholesale distribution.
Accounts Payable/Receivable:
Manage all invoicing, vendor payments, and customer collections efficiently.
Inventory Management Support:
Assist with inventory tracking and reconciliation of wine stock (bottled and bulk), retail merchandise, and raw materials (grapes, barrels, bottles).
Sales and Excise Tax Compliance:
Process and file monthly/quarterly sales tax and assist external accountants with specific alcohol beverage excise tax reporting.
Bank & Credit Card Reconciliation:
Perform meticulous monthly reconciliations of all bank accounts, credit card statements, and loan statements.
Financial Reporting:
Generate monthly Profit & Loss statements and Balance Sheets for management review, highlighting key variances and trends.
POS System Management:
Oversee the integration and data flow between the Point of Sale (POS) system and our core accounting software - QuickBooks Online.
General Ledger Maintenance:
Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure all financial data is organized for seamless year-end tax preparation by our CPA.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
Proven experience in a bookkeeping or accounting role, preferably within the hospitality, retail, or agricultural industry. Winery experience is a significant plus.
Software Proficiency:
Strong proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks Online), Microsoft Excel, and familiarity with integrated POS/inventory systems.
Industry Knowledge:
Basic understanding of inventory costing and compliance requirements specific to alcohol production and sales.
Attention to Detail:
Exceptional accuracy and organizational skills are paramount in a highly regulated industry.
Communication:
Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively with tasting room staff, vineyard managers, vendors, and ownership.
Ethics:
A high degree of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial data.
Education
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; OR equivalent practical work experience.
