Job Description

Job Summary:

We are looking for a project engineer intern, this is a parttime position during the school year that can become a fulltime position during the summer. Our ideal applicant would have 2 to 4 semesters of school left remaining and be able to work 15 to 20 hours a week while classes are in session. This internship position is based in the Boise office assisting with takeoffs, estimates and other tasks.



The Project Engineer Intern position must be able to effectively communicate (both written and verbal) to all levels both within and outside the organization in a professional and timely manner. A few of the specific responsibilities will include:



Assist estimators provide timely and accurate take-offs for estimates.

Soliciting and negotiating with subcontractors in a challenging market.

Analyzing blue prints, specifications, proposals and other documentation, to ensure estimates are complete.

Consult with clients, vendors or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.

Assist project managers and superintendents with project operations.


Knife River requires all employees to successfully pass a post-offer pre-employment drug test as well as random tests throughout employment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified applicant must be working towards a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering degree.

Self-Start with the desire to learn and grow.

Fluency in Microsoft Office required, MS Excel, Outlook, Word, Project

Knowledge of Agtek or AutoCad - preferred

Successful applicant must have a valid driver's license and a qualifying driving record under Company Policy.
