Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Shortage Category and/or Critical Need Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: The Summer Hire program is from May thru August 2024, will need to be available to start by May 24, 2024. Management may fill multiple vacancies at each location.

Duties
  • Collect and assemble biological or related environmental information for specific projects or geographic areas.
  • Assist with the monitoring of Federally listed threatened shorebirds (piping plovers) during their breeding season from May - August.
  • Assist with the collection of biological data in the field.
  • Accompany staff to project areas and under direction; helps map, identify, verify, count or collect animal species.
  • Prepare maps for inclusion in environmental reports which depict habitat delineations or species locations.
  • Arrange biological data and analysis information into tabular or graphic format for inclusion in environmental documents.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a state issued driver\xe2\x80\x99s license.
  • Incumbent is required to work varying schedules, weekends, and/or holiday work.
  • This position may require you to wear a prescribed uniform while in a duty status.
  • Must obtain a US Army Corps of Engineers Motorboat Operator\xe2\x80\x99s License upon employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
Qualifications

This is an open-continuous announcement. Referral lists may be requested to fill vacant positions throughout the life of the announcement. Position may be filled as a temporary appointment NTE 1 year. Temporary appointments may be extended up to a maximum of 18 months. A current permanent Army employee is not eligible for return placement under a new appointment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Minimum Qualifications for GS-01: Current High School Student

General Experience for GS-02: Three months of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.

Education: High school graduation (or equivalent)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 3. Then divide your total credit hours of education by the total number of credit hours required for graduation as set by your high school. Add the two percentages.

General Experience for GS-03: Six months of general experience (1) in any type of work that demonstrates the applicant\'s ability to perform the work of the position which includes collecting data and performing basic data entry duties

OR

Education: One year of education above the high school level which includes six semester hours in courses related to the work of the position in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics; Transcripts must be submitted at time of application for verification. NOTE: One (1) year of education is defined as 30-59 semester hours or 45-89 quarter hours.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages.
