Position Overview
The BIFX team at Exact Sciences is seeking a summer intern. The intern will collaborate with senior bioinformatics scientists, the software engineering team, and the AI team to evaluate, implement, and improve a general-purpose Bioinformatics AI Agent for pipeline execution and data analysis. Responsibilities include participating in the end-to-end bioinformatics data analysis workflow: data collection, initiating pipelines, data transformation, building and validating analysis models, and investigating machine learning and AI-based methods. Candidates should be currently pursuing a PhD or master's degree in bioinformatics, computer science, mathematics, or data sciences.
This position is onsite at our San Diego office.
Essential Duties
Include, but are not limited to:

• Develop, test, and analyze AI agents on AWS
• Analyze genomics and NGS data
• Program efficiently in Python and/or R
• Use AWS computing resources effectively
• Summarize work for internal discussions and results sharing

• Ability to work designated schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

• Pursuing or recently completed a Ph.D./M.S. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Mathematics, or related field; strong academic record preferred
• Solid background in statistical analysis and software engineering
• Experience in genomics data preprocessing and AI agents
• Able to perform essential duties with or without accommodation
• Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience with deep learning frameworks and methodologies
• Proven ability to handle and analyze large-scale NGS datasets
• Proficient in relational database management and SQL
• Familiarity with AWS Q-CLI

Salary Range: $40,250.00 - $64,400.00
The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - CA - San Diego on a full-time basis.
