The Bioinformatics Analyst is an entry-level role for recent graduates with a bachelor's degree in a biological or computational field. The position supports senior bioinformatics engineers and scientists in performing routine and moderately complex bioinformatics analyses across genomic, transcriptomic, and/or proteomic data types. This individual will contribute to data preprocessing, quality control, result reporting, and reproducibility under supervision. The Bioinformatics Analyst role offers exposure to high-impact biomedical research and serves as an ideal position for candidates interested in developing deeper skills in computational biology, genomics, and team science.

Qualifications

Minimum Education



Bachelor's degree in bioinformatics, data analytics or related field. (Required)



Minimum Work Experience



0-2 years in applied bioinformatics, computational, and genomics/proteomics areas. (Required)



Required Skills/Knowledge



Technical Skills

Proficiency in UNIX/Linux environments. Basic scripting and analysis skills in R, Python, or a similar language. Familiarity with NGS, microarray, or other high-throughput data platforms. Exposure to version control systems (e.g., Git/GitHub). Interest in learning containerized environments (e.g., Docker, Singularity) and use of HPC or cloud computing systems.

Scientific & Analytical Skills

Ability to follow established pipelines for standard data processing and analysis. Willingness to learn and apply appropriate statistical and quality control methods. Familiarity with major bioinformatics resources (e.g., UCSC Genome Browser, NCBI, ENCODE, GTEx, ClinVar, OMIM, COSMIC) preferred.

Collaborative and Professional Skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with scientists, clinicians, and peers. Excellent organizational habits, time management, and attention to detail. Functional Accountabilities



Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)



Demonstrate ethical behavior and integrity in handling data and communicating results. Follow institutional and federal policies related to data privacy, data sharing, and governance. Properly cite software tools, data sources, and collaborators.

Data Processing & Analysis Support





Execute and monitor existing bioinformatics workflows and analyses for bioinformatics datasets with supervision. Preprocess datasets, perform QC, and summarize fundings under supervision. Assist in result visualization and interpretation.

Troubleshooting & Documentation





Identify and document basic technical issues, including file formatting, versioning, or software compatibility problems. Seek guidance to resolve unexpected outcomes and improve reproducibility. Maintain clean code and analysis records.

Scientific Communication





Contribute to figures, results summaries, and presentation materials for team meetings and collaborators with review and feedback from senior staff. Participate in lab meetings, journal clubs, and scientific discussions to contextualize findings. Communicate technical findings clearly with guidance from senior staff to ensure clarity, accuracy, and appropriate context.

Collaboration and Team Science





Work closely with experimental biologists, clinicians, and more senior bioinformatics scientists to define project goals and deliverables. Contribute to shared code repositories and documentation practices in accordance with lab or institutional standards. Respond to feedback and iteratively refine analyses to support research hypotheses. Participate in code review processes with guidance from senior staff, incorporating feedback to improve code clarity, structure, and reproducibility.

Professional Development





Stay current with advances in bioinformatics tools, databases, and best practices. Participate in workshops, courses, and learning opportunities in bioinformatics, genomics, and/or proteomics, as related to the role. Explore domain-specific topics (e.g., pediatric cancer, neurodevelopment, rare disease) by reading scientific literature and engaging in research discussions with subject matter experts.
