The Wisconsin DOJ - Office of Crime Victim Services (OCVS) is currently recruiting for a Bilingual Victim Resource Center Victim Services Specialist to serve in a project position funded through September 30, 2027 . Project positions are a great opportunity to gain experience within state service and work with victim service providers statewide.
Please note, to be considered for the Bilingual position and receive up to $1.00 per hour add-on pay, the selected candidate must be fluent in both English and Spanish. We will verify fluency at the time of hire.
This position is headquartered at the Risser Justice Center located at 17 West Main Street in Madison.

Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Director of Victim Service Programs & Training, this project position is responsible for staffing the Victim Resource Center (VRC) toll-free line and email inbox. This requires responding to crime victims, verbally, electronically, and in writing, to assess their needs and requests, identifying resources and support services, triaging informal rights complaints, providing general assistance, and making appropriate referrals to Crime Victim Compensation, Safe at Home, the Office of Victim Services and Programs, or other state or community agencies as needed.
The duties of this project position require the ability to read, speak, and/or write fluently in English and Spanish.
Salary Information
The Bilingual Victim Resource Center Victim Services Specialist project position is in pay schedule 12 and pay range 64. The starting pay will be between $30.00 and $34.34/hour, depending on qualifications. Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan at the time of hire.
Job Details
Based on current funding, this project position is expected to end September 30, 2027 , with the possibility of extension. As a project employee, you will continue to receive all rights and privileges afforded to original probationary employees by state law, with the exception of tenure, transfer, reinstatement and layoff benefits.
This position may be eligible to work remotely as part of a hybrid schedule following an initial training period, including reporting on multiple consecutive workdays to the assigned headquarters as needed. Travel to the headquarters is not eligible for travel reimbursement. High speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work.
Occasional in-state travel will be required. Must be eligible to drive when required for travel.
The Department of Justice does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

Qualifications

Communicating with clients and/or customers to address concerns over the phone, gathering information, assessing requestor needs, and/or making referrals to resources.
Working with victims in an advocacy or assistance role.
Working with individuals who have experienced trauma related to crime victimization.
In addition to the minimum qualifications, a well-qualified applicant will have a combination of the following:
Experience providing direct services to victims engaged with the criminal justice system.
Experience providing assistance related to crime victim rights.
Experience providing information on the Crime Victim Compensation program.
