The mission of the Food Bank of Delaware is to provide nutritious foods to Delawareans in need and facilitate long-term solutions to the problems of hunger and poverty through community education and advocacy.

Position Summary



The Benefits Outreach Coordinator facilitates enrollment in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and other health and social service programs for eligible individuals, while also communicating the benefits of program participation. This position plays a key role in building community partnerships, conducting outreach, and ensuring accurate application support and follow-up. In addition to outreach responsibilities, the coordinator may also provide occasional backup support in the Healthy Pantry Center, assisting with food distribution and client services to ensure a smooth and respectful experience for pantry visitors.

Major Responsibilities and Essential Functions



Travel to community locations in assigned geographic territory to provide outreach, distribute materials, and deliver presentations to potential clients. Organize and participate in outreach events, community resource fairs, and tabling opportunities to connect directly with potential clients and community partners. Publicize and promote SNAP benefits to low-income communities by distributing marketing materials and providing clear, accurate information about the program. Establish and maintain outreach partnerships with organizations and community leaders to reach eligible populations and reduce barriers to accessing SNAP and other benefits. Identify partner organizations for ongoing outreach and resource collaboration efforts. Coordinate with other FBD departments and staff (including SNAP Outreach, Communications, and Development) to strengthen outreach efforts and align messaging. Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers to support outreach activities when needed. Receive, review, and ensure completion and accuracy of SNAP applications prior to data entry. Enter all application data accurately into required systems and maintain compliance with program guidelines. Conduct follow-up outreach to clients who fail to respond or who need additional assistance completing the application process. Monitor and respond to all State-generated reporting related to submitted applications. Review and analyze SNAP Outreach surveys and provide recommendations for program improvement. Regularly audit systems and databases for data integrity and accuracy. Collaborate with the Communications Department to develop and update outreach and marketing materials, particularly in response to changes in federal guidelines. Provide backup support in the Healthy Pantry Center as needed, including assisting with client service, food distribution, restocking, and maintaining a welcoming, food-safe environment. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualities and Experience



High School Diploma or equivalent; a bachelors' degree is preferred but not required 1 year of previous experience in community organizing or working in a client-facing role A valid driver's license and reliable transportation Must have very strong self-initiative and be able to work with little direct supervision Strong interpersonal skills required with experience dealing with individuals from many different backgrounds and socio-economic experiences and settings Strong ability in the Microsoft Office suite of applications General understanding of social service system and anti-hunger programs a plus Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) preferred Prior experience handling data entry responsibilities or equivalent experience in a related field is preferred

Physical Requirements



Requires regular exposure to warehouse and commercial kitchen environments Protective equipment must be worn when and where required Works at a computer workstation, generally with a monitor, will be required May require sitting, bending, lifting (up to 20 pounds), squatting and other minimal physical activity
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
