Job Description

Summary




The GAP Behavior Technician (BT) supports young adults with autism to safely and successfully participate in the GAP center and community-based day program. The BT implements individualized treatment plans--Individualized Support Plans (ISP) and Behavior Support Plans (BSP)--to build communication, social, academic, vocational, and daily living skills while decreasing challenging behaviors. The BT is responsible for collecting accurate data on client progress, supporting clients in various settings, and participating in team meetings as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



Engage in work that aligns with the agency's mission to help individuals with disabilities reach their fullest potential Implement treatment and behavior support plans as developed by the clinician Respond promptly and appropriately to client needs to ensure safety and promote positive outcomes Adhere to all agency policies, procedures, state regulations, and relevant laws Communicate effectively with clients, families, and team members Demonstrate reliability through punctual attendance at scheduled sessions, meetings, trainings, and supervision Maintain professional boundaries and positive working relationships with families Uphold high ethical standards, including strict confidentiality of client information Collect, record, and maintain data and documentation as assigned Perform additional duties as directed by a supervisor.



Qualifications



Successful completion of the Behavior Technician Training provided by AccessPoint. Minimum age of 19 with a high school diploma or equivalent; prior experience working with individuals with special health care needs and/or a college degree is preferred. Ability to pass all required background checks.

Special Qualifications



Current CPR certification or willing to become current A valid driver's license Willingness to operate AccessPoint RI vehicles and/or provide transportation to clients as needed

Physical Demands and Safety Requirements:




This position involves active engagement and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe environment for all clients. As an essential function of the position, candidates must be able to ensure the safety and protection of individuals at all times and have the ability to talk, hear, sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, and move quickly--including running when necessary. The role requires engaging in physical activity to support, guide, and redirect clients as needed. Candidates must also be able to lift or assist clients when necessary, as well as provide toileting assistance, including support with bathroom routines, diapering, clothing changes, and hygiene maintenance. Maintaining alertness and responsiveness to ensure client safety across various settings is essential.

Work Environment and Transportation Requirements:




A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required, as travel between multiple service locations may be necessary. Duties may be performed in school settings, community environments, or AccessPoint buildings.
