Vicksburg Community Schools is seeking a dedicated, student-centered School Behavior Specialist to support, coordinate, and implement positive student behavior and social-emotional growth at Sunset Lake K-5 Elementary. The Behavior Specialist will work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, support staff, students, and families to proactively address behavioral needs and promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. This position is ideal for a professional with a background in teaching, counseling, and/or social work who is passionate about supporting students through evidence-based behavioral practices.
Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans aligned with student needs.
Collect, analyze, and track behavioral data to monitor progress and inform instructional and intervention decisions.
Collaborate with and coach teachers and classroom staff to implement proactive classroom management strategies and behavior supports.
Model and support evidence-based behavioral interventions within classroom settings.
Lead and participate in student support team meetings, including MTSS, SAT, student behavior review meetings, and IEP or 504 meetings, as needed.
Partner with administrators, counselors, social workers, and families to ensure consistent behavioral supports across settings.
Support school-wide positive behavior initiatives and social-emotional learning practices.
Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with district and state requirements.
Supporting team with Building Threat Assessments (BTA).
Other duties as assigned by the building principal or their designee.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or related field.
Valid teaching certificate, counseling license, or social work license or ability to obtain.
Experience working with students exhibiting behavioral, emotional, or social challenges.
Background with knowledge of research-based behavior interventions and support, FBAs, BIPs, and data-based decision making.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate, coach, and build positive relationships with staff and students.
Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Experience working with K-12 children, their families and school systems.
Familiarity with PBIS, MTSS, trauma-informed practices, and restorative approaches.
Experience facilitating team meetings and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Must possess good decision-making skills.
Must be flexible in work assignments and adapt approaches to meet diverse student needs.
Must pass background checks and comply with state and district requirements for working with students.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, bend, reach, and move about the building and campus to assist students.
May require an employee to lift and/or move heavy objects.
May require travel between buildings.
