JOB DESCRIPTION



TITLE: BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONIST



QUALIFICATIONS:



1. Valid Missouri teaching certificate



2. Teaching experience with primary age children - At least three years of experience desired



3. Willing to learn, acquire and apply new skills and knowledge



4. Organizational skills



5. Effective communication skills



6. Strong knowledge of working with students who struggle behaviorally



7. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing



8. Strong problem-solving skills



9. Must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the Board of Education



10. An employee commitment to serve as a behavior interventionist for at least a two year period.



REPORTS TO: Building Principal



JOB GOAL: To provide behavioral assistance to behaviorally struggling learners



PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:



1. Knows and embraces the philosophy and mission of Ozark Public Schools.



2. Designs and implements behavior interventions using research based methodology.



3. Has the knowledge of the social and emotional issues that elementary students face.



4. Ability to determine the underlying causes of student misbehavior and how to improve those behaviors.



5. Works with building administration to determine severity of behavior and which tier of interventionist should intervene.



6. Ability to show compassion and at the same time hold students accountable for unacceptable behavior.



7. Understanding that the position is a proactive approach to discipline. Teaching and expecting proper behavior prior to the need for discipline.



8. Ability to know when a behavior should be reported to the principal for discipline. Only typical teacher discipline is expected of this position.



9. Willingness to assist a behaviorally struggling student throughout the school day, spending time with the student in the classroom, playground, cafeteria, etc. or wherever the inappropriate behavior is occurring.



10. Meets one-on-one or with small groups of behaviorally struggling students.



11. Creates and implements social groups for struggling students.



12. Monitors behaviors across school settings to make suggestions for improving PBIS Tier 1.



13. Participates in, and manages, Tier 2 and Tier 3 PBIS behavior interventions.



14. Is an active member of the building's STAT (Student/Teacher Assistance Team) Team.



15. Communicates with classroom teachers and provides information on interventions that can be implemented in the classroom.



16. Uses data to monitor progress and submits data as requested.



17. Participates in appropriate professional development required of behavioral interventionists.



18. Provides professional development to teachers on strategies for assisting behaviorally struggling learners.



19. Participates in other duties as assigned.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Duties performed typically in a school setting. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, light lifting up to 30 pounds, walking, vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.



TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 days as per School Board Policy GCBDA



TYPE OF POSITION: Exempt



EVALUATION: Evaluated annually by the building principal
