The purpose of this position is to support the bath chemistry control process by collecting bath and metal samples each day. The incumbent will also support special process tests as required.
2.0 Scope:
Scope of supervision
This position reports directly to the Potroom Process Engineer, with some direction provided by the Shift Supervisors, the General Foreman and the Technical and Maintenance Coordinator.
This position requires the incumbent to perform duties, set priorities, and meet schedules with a minimum of supervision.
3.0 Responsibilities:
Collect 90 bath and metal samples per day, four days per week.
Perform STAR or temperature measurement on exception pots as directed by shift supervision.
Must be proficient in computer skills Excel, Word, Access, APG, and Outlook.
Assist with research and development projects. Assist in collecting additional process control data as required.
Practices good human relation skills and observe and abide by company policies, practices, and rules including safe work methods and waste minimization; recognize unsafe conditions and take steps to correct them.
Follow safe work practices when working around molten bath and metal to prevent serious injury to self and others.
Position requirements
Education:
This position requires a technically oriented person with a minimum of a high school degree or equivalent. The incumbent must be able to operate a basic graphical computer interface, monitor alarm or warning codes and respond accordingly. Must have the ability to use acquired human relations skills to develop team skills and good working relationships with management, other department personnel, and hourly personnel.
Physical:
Must be able to read reports, gauges, and meters.
Must be able to walk the length of the Potroom while carrying equipment and meters, climb stairs and steps.
Must be able to communicate on the plant paging system.
Must be able to lift tools weighing as much as 20 pounds above head height to break pot crust.
Working hours will be 10-hour shifts typically on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, with occasional periods of overtime and shift rescheduling required as work load demands.
Working environment will primarily consist of working in the Potroom exposed to outside temperatures and extreme heat, and noise (hearing protection required).

This position requires awareness of the Mt. Holly Environmental Policy, Mt Holly Waste Minimization Policies and Alcoa Environment, Health and Safety Policy/Principles. Incumbent must be knowledgeable of the environmental aspects of processes, activities and services in job area and appropriate measures to control impact on the environment.
The incumbent will adhere to SOP-0465, having no more than three end doors open at the same time in the section where they are working.
Support plant policies for waste minimization, demonstrate knowledge of the environmental aspects of the job and effectively employ standard methods to control impact of work on the environment to prevent pollution. Support department environmental objectives and plant environmental goals
