A position has been declared open in the Weber School District for a part-time Elementary Aide (Emphasis/es: Behavior, Recess/Lunchroom Supervision, Reading Intervention). This paraprofessional position is for 4.00 hours per day (or its weekly aggregate equivalent), 180 days (9 months) per year, and is compensated according to Lane 4(B) of the Paraprofessionals Salary Schedule.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the principal and teacher(s), the Elementary Aide assists teachers in a variety of capacities in the instruction and supervision of students. Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are required and are essential functions of this position. As school needs change, your job description and essential functions could change from year to year to include Playground, Lunchroom, Classroom, STEM, Art, etc.)

Essential Functions:

Assists in the preparation of instructional materials. Assists in the instruction of students and other classroom activities as needed. May tutor students individually or in small groups under the direction of the teacher. Assists with physical and emotional maintenance of students with disabilities including assessing curriculum and participating in school or classroom activities. Assist students needing supplemental help with various school subjects and programs. Assist in the administration of a variety of tests and monitor students' academic progress. Keeps accurate data on assigned students or groups of students. Supports a school environment that helps students develop and maintain a positive self-concept. Support classroom behavior management to maintain a positive and focused learning environment. Maintains professional confidentiality regarding student information. Maintains effective and positive communication with students, teachers, parents, patrons and administration. Positive interaction with students, teachers, social workers, psychologists, support personnel and administrators. Assists in school events at the direction of the principal Requires ability to work effectively with staff and students Requires ability to exercise emotional control in difficult situations. Requires ability to solve a variety of problems relating to individual student needs and behaviors. Problem solving is guided by policies and procedures set by administration and the licensed teachers. Requires knowledge of and assistance for the safety and security of students assigned to the classroom (e.g., helping students on and off buses on a rotating schedule, supervising play activities, field trips and lunches). Effectively implements interventions and strategies as outlined in Individualised Education Plans (IEP), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), or other student success plans. Collects behavior data and provides reports and/or graphs of the data to school personnel for use in developing behavior intervention plans. Provides feedback about specific student needs. May assist in on-the-job training to other paraeducators as appropriate. Responds to critical situations in a variety of locations on a temporary, as needed basis. Demonstrates flexibility, the ability to work independently and problem solve. During times of emergency, all employees may be required to perform additional duties that are not required on a normal basis in support of educational and operational priorities. Supervision of a student in a location outside the classroom as needed. Participate in professional development as directed by your administrator. Must be able to work assigned hours. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the administrator.

Behavior Intervention

Asists school personnel

under the direction of the building administrator in instructional and non-instructional activities for students who are exhibiting behavioral challenges

. This position implements and monitors intervention for students, supports the development of and implements classroom supports, and models techniques for staff in teaching positive student behavior. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, engaging in the following activities with support and direction:

+ Utilize safe and appropriate procedures when managing students with challenging behavior + Interpret and implement written behavior plans,
+ Utilize and model the implementation of positive behavior supports with students
+ Adapts classroom work under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce lesson plans.
+ Provide instruction under the direction of the school administrator in one-on-one, small group or whole group situations
+ Support inclusion in general education classrooms
+ Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities; displaying tact and courtesy; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; being attentive to detail; and working with detailed information/data.
+ Monitor student behavior and make quick, effective decisions as needed for safety purposes
+ Work independently with minimal supervision

Recess/Lunchroom Supervision

Ensures a safe and enjoyable recess experience for elementary school students. This role involves supervising outdoor activities, promoting positive social interactions, and contributing to a secure and inclusive play environment.



Supvervision duties include, but are not limited to:

+ Supervise students during outdoor recess periods to ensure a safe and secure environment. + Monitor student behavior, intervening when necessary to address conflicts or ensure adherence to rules.
+ Promote positive social interactions and encourage inclusive play.
+ Enforce safety rules and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries.
+ Be vigilant for potential hazards on the playground and take prompt action to address them.
+ Mediate minor conflicts among students, promoting peaceful resolution.
+ Report significant behavioral issues or incidents to school administrators or teachers.
+ Foster a positive and respectful atmosphere during recess.
+ Encourage and facilitate inclusive play activities that engage students of varying interests and abilities.
+ Organize and oversee structured games or activities to enhance the recess experience.
+ Report any unusual behavior or patterns to school staff.
+ Collaborate with school staff during emergency drills or real-time situations.

Reading Intervention

Responsible for assisting in the delivery of effective reading instruction to elementary school students. This position involves working closely with classroom teachers and the instructional coach to provide targeted reading interventions, monitor student progress, and create a supportive environment that fosters literacy development.

+ Assist in implementing research-based reading programs and strategies to support students' literacy development. + Provide one-on-one or small group reading instruction to students who require additional support.
+ Use a variety of instructional materials and resources to engage students in reading activities.
+ Administer reading assessments
+ Track and record student progress in reading and share this information with the instructional team.
+ Collaborate with classroom teachers to align reading instruction with classroom curriculum and goals.
+ Organize and maintain literacy resources, including books, instructional materials, and technology tools.
+ Assist in creating a literacy-rich classroom environment.
+ Support classroom discipline and behavior management to maintain a positive and focused learning environment.
+ Reinforce classroom rules and expectations related to reading activities.

Physical Requirements (including, but not limited to, the following):

Remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Move about inside and outside the school to access files, students and machinery. Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer, computer printer. Occasionally ascend/descend a ladder/stairs to access high objects or different levels of the building. Constantly positions self to maintain files, students, or objects. Have the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Have the ability to observe details at close and far range. Frequently move items weighing up to 50 pounds across the classroom for various needs. May work in outdoor weather conditions. Aides in Special Education and P.E. may be required to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required Previous related experience preferred
