The BAS Technician is responsible for the installation, programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Building Automation Systems (BAS), including HVAC, lighting, energy management, and integration with other systems. This role requires deep technical knowledge of DDC controls, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to mentor junior technicians while ensuring optimal system performance across commercial, industrial, or institutional facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Program, and commission BAS systems (e.g., Distech, Honeywell, and potentially Johnson FX Controls. We service some Siemens, Schneider Electric, Trane Controls, but will usually remove and replace with Distech or Honeywell).
Troubleshoot complex control issues in HVAC, lighting, and integration systems using diagnostic tools and software.
Perform system upgrades and software updates, ensuring compatibility and minimal downtime.
Configure and calibrate field devices such as sensors, actuators, controllers, and I/O modules.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, sequences of operations, and control schematics.
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, electricians, and mechanical contractors to execute projects on time and within budget.
Maintain accurate documentation of system architecture, as-built drawings, and service records.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior BAS technicians and apprentices.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, local building codes, and cybersecurity best practices.
Participate in on-call rotation or emergency support as needed.
Qualifications:
Experience:
5+ years of hands-on experience with BAS installation, programming, and troubleshooting.
Proven experience with one or more major BAS platforms (e.g., Tridium Niagara, Distech, Honeywell, JCI Metasys, Alerton, etc.).
Skills:
Advanced knowledge of HVAC systems and mechanical equipment.
Proficient in networking (IP addressing, BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks).
Strong programming and logic development skills for DDC controllers.
Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
Ability to work independently and lead project tasks with minimal supervision.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and navigate mechanical rooms.
Work in varying environmental conditions including rooftops and outdoor enclosures.
