Job Summary
Live. Grow. Share. (LGS) is seeking a reliable and experienced Horse Trainer & Barn Manager to support our equine therapy program. This role focuses on daily horse care, training, and barn operations while helping maintain a calm, safe, and therapeutic environment for participants, staff, and horses.
This position is well-suited for someone who is confident with horses, organized, dependable, and aligned with trauma-informed, relationship-centered work.
Schedule Expectations
Evening feedings during the week
Morning and evening feedings on Saturdays and Sundays
Schedule will be consistent and set in advance
Responsibilities
Horse Care & Training
Daily feeding, grooming, turnout, stall care, and health monitoring
Train and maintain horses appropriate for therapeutic and experiential work
Assess horse temperament, soundness, and readiness for program participation
Support conditioning, transitions, and retirement planning as needed
Barn Management
Oversee daily barn operations and safety procedures
Coordinate farrier, veterinary, dental, and bodywork appointments
Maintain clean, safe, and organized barn, pasture, and equipment areas
Monitor feed, supplies, and basic inventory needs
Program Support
Collaborate with equine staff, clinicians, and peer support teams
Support equine-assisted sessions as appropriate (primarily ground-based)
Assist with staff orientation and horse safety education
Participate in team meetings and program planning
Safety & Documentation
Follow animal welfare, safety, and liability standards
Document horse health updates, incidents, and training notes
Adhere to organizational policies and procedures
Qualifications
Required
Experience in horse training and barn management
Strong understanding of horse behavior, welfare, and safe handling
Ability to work independently and manage daily responsibilities
Reliable, organized, and safety-focused
Comfortable working in emotionally sensitive environments
Preferred
Experience with therapeutic or equine-assisted programs
Ground-based or relationship-focused horsemanship background
Experience working alongside clinical or social service teams
First Aid / CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to safely handle horses of varying sizes and temperaments
