Pineland Farms is one of the largest food manufacturing organizations located in Aroostook County. Our Mars Hill facility has over 200 incredible team members who work together to provide our customers with the best possible potato product. Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

This position is accountable for the daily coordination of the production facility for the both shifts mash and cuts in assigned areas of production and/or packaging and processing. It requires the assessment of daily operational requirements and the development of daily work assignments for each team member. This position plays a key role in achieving the proper staffing levels for the production and/or packaging and processing lines for the facility in order to achieve safety, sanitation and production objectives. The incumbent is responsible for providing a safe and productive work environment and monitoring the development of team members providing coaching and counseling to improve their performance.

The incumbent is challenged to work closely with all plant disciplines including Maintenance, Quality Assurance, meeting SQF Code requirements, Human Resources, Scheduler, Facilities, Raw Materials, Warehouse, Customers, Suppliers, Auditors and others as required. This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value.

Duties and Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Ensure proper level of trained and qualified staff to support the entire facility. This is achieved through development of effective daily work schedules for team members plus ongoing coaching, development, and training of staff. Team member performance evaluations are completed in a timely manner.
2. Ensure a safe work environment through prompt resolution of safety-related issues, monitoring of work practices to ensure safe work behaviors and doing safety related facility tours and audits.
3. Hold safety meetings and training sessions.
4. Verify crew members trained to complete assignments to OSHA requirements.
5. Feedback to management regarding possible safety issues, accident potentials.
6. Decide employee disposition in the event of an injury- assist with medical attention.
7. Initiate incident/accident reports.
8. Requisition adequate PPE for crew.
9. Ensure food safety and food security through adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices, Sanitation Guidelines, and understanding of all Hazard Analysis Critical Controls.
10. Ensure all \xe2\x80\x9cheavies\xe2\x80\x9d cleanups are completed by the end of each shift.
11. Coordinate with the sanitation crews for scheduling
12. Ensure product quality by adherence to product/packaging specifications.
13. Verify all Documentation for QA purposes (quality control form).
14. Enable employees to make necessary changes to stay within product specifications.

15. Implement corrective actions to fix deficiencies.
16. Achieve daily and weekly production and packaging goals and objectives.
17. Assist scheduler in making production schedule and then produce to schedule.
18. Reconcile actual versus planned schedules.
19. Requisition production supplies (SAP).
20. Ensure coordination of equipment maintenance.
21. Validate equipment operation at beginning of shift, communicate problems, and initiate work orders for equipment that cannot be repaired during the shift.
22. Provide feedback to maintenance regarding work orders completed or scheduled;
23. Ensure collaboration of team members across shifts and between team members and ensure the development of a high-performance work environment.
24. Serve as emergency coordinator ensuring the safety of all employees and visitors.
25. Supervisor is accountable for all production related activities throughout the plant. This includes all aspects of the operation from the generation of waste, receiving of raw materials, production, packaging and quality assurance to ensuring all customers orders are completed and ready to ship on time. All team members working in production including sanitation and shift production coordinators report up through the Shift Supervisor.
26. Follow all SQF principles pertinent to your position as specified by the SQF Practitioner.
27. All food safety and human safety concerns need to be reported to appropriate personnel such as QA technician, Safety Manager, FSQ Manager, etc.
28. Ability to embrace change productively and to handle other tasks as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Reporting to the incumbent are approximately 32 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization\'s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

In the absence of the Production Shift Supervisor the Shift Lead has been identified as the designated back up.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Reporting to the incumbent are approximately 32 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization\'s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

In the absence of the Production Shift Supervisor the Shift Lead has been identified as the designated back up.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Ability to lead and direct a diverse set of human resources
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Operating knowledge of computers, desktop software, and business systems
  • High School equivalency math skills
  • Must possess knowledge in the area of safety; including OSHA and other applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Knowledgeable of food processing, HACCP, GMPs and sanitation preferred
Education and/or Experience

A bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or equivalent and 5+ years of progressively more responsible plant operational experience, or the equivalent.

Team Leadership Skills

Successful incumbents must possess the ability and desire to lead in a team environment. This qualification includes the willingness to allow decision making by operations personnel and the ability to lead them in the decision-making process such that they take full ownership in the results. That ability includes creating an environment where people are comfortable in sharing concerns and offering solutions. This will allow oneself to move from the role of direct decision maker to becoming a coach providing expectations and giving feedback.

Language Skills

Successful incumbents will have the ability to read and comprehend simple to complex instructions, correspondence, and memos. Will have the ability to write various types of documents including, but not limited to instructions, disciplinary action and performance appraisals. Will have the ability to effectively present information verbally one on one, and in large group situations as well as effectively facilitate meetings.

Reasoning Ability

Successful incumbents will have the ability to apply experience and common sense to a variety of situations and to resolve issues fairly and efficiently. Other reasoning abilities include troubleshooting problems to resolve issues that reduce line efficiency, product quality, safety, and sanitation. These issues may include conflicts between employees, equipment malfunction, and variation in raw material and process conditions. Ability to determine how to make the most efficient use of the manpower assigned to the crew.

Work Environment

Physical demands normally include sitting 25% and standing/walking 75% sitting. However, situations may require extended periods for any of the above. Frequent hand usage when writing, entering computer data, using manuals and preparing reports. Other physical demands include the ability to ascend and descend several flights of stairs daily between the floors. Environmental conditions can include occasional exposure to extreme heat within the plant, occasional exposure to high humidity near plant equipment, and occasional exposure to high noise levels up 93 decibels created by operating equipment

This position has been identified as having the potential for exposure to blood born pathogens (BBP\xe2\x80\x99s). This potential exposure is from working with employees that may have an accident, need a bandage, or the cleanup of bodily fluids.
