Salary Range: $74,786.00 - $91,380.00 Annually

ELIGIBILITY: Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

DRUG & ALCOHOL TESTING: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment will be required to submit to drug and alcohol testing. Testing is also required prior to promotion to a sensitive job classification.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a criminal conviction check.

CLASS DISCRIPTION

An Avionics Technician/Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic performs scheduled and unscheduled avionics maintenance on helicopters and associated aircraft ground support equipment, in accordance with manufacturer\xe2\x80\x99s specifications and Federal Aviation Administration\xe2\x80\x99s regulations. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

Incumbents receive general supervision from an administrative superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek and are subject to callback. Work is performed outside in all weather conditions and in a hangar where incumbents are exposed to noise, equipment with moving parts, chemicals and caustic substances and materials, and requires safety and protective equipment. Work requires strenuous physical activity such as lifting, climbing and bending.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

EDUCATION: Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
AND
EXPERIENCE: Have five years of experience as an Avionics Technician/Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic on turbine helicopters. Part 145 Repair Station experience is preferred, but not mandatory.
OR
NOTE EQUIVALENCIES: Completion of an Aviation Electronics or Avionics technical program at a training school, trade school or college may substitute for one year of the required avionics technician experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES

Have a valid Class C Noncommercial driver\xe2\x80\x99s license or an equivalent out-of-state driver\xe2\x80\x99s license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management is required.

NOTES: Must hold a current Airframe/Powerplant Mechanic Certificate and a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) General Radiotelephone Operator License with Ship Radar Endorsement and/or the Aircraft Electronics Technician (AET) certification from the National Center for Aerospace and Transportation Technologies (NCATT).

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of aviation avionics maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration regulations as pertains to aviation avionics.
  • Knowledge of techniques, tools and materials used to test and maintain aviation avionics instrumentation equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety precautions taken in repairing equipment.
  • Skill in maintaining avionics equipment.
  • Ability to identify and correct aviation avionics problems utilizing appropriate test equipment.
  • Ability to understand and apply manufacturing specifications and Federal Aviation Regulations.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to conduct avionics inspections and evaluate equipment for safety and airworthiness.
  • Ability to use hand tools and testing equipment such precision crimping devices, wire marking device, solder/de-soldering equipment, vacuum and pressure test and electronic test equipment.
  • Ability to utilize personal safety clothing and apparatus including respirators, batons, and handcuffs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sources and records.
