SALARY $78,107.00 - $95,488.00

EDUCATION ACCREDITATION: Applicant\xe2\x80\x99s education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.

ELIGIBILITY: Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to this position identified as positions of trust will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a Fingerprint check.

PROBATION: All persons, including current City employees, selected from this position will be on probation for 12 months.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

An Aviation Mechanic Inspector- Airframe & Powerplant schedules and performs inspections of maintenance on helicopters and associated aircraft ground support equipment, in accordance with manufacturer\xe2\x80\x99s specifications and Federal Aviation Administration\xe2\x80\x99s regulations. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

Incumbents receive general supervision from an administrative superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek and are subject to callback. Work is performed outside in all weather conditions and in a hangar where incumbents are exposed to noise, equipment with moving parts, chemicals and caustic substances and materials, and requires safety and protective equipment. Work requires strenuous physical activity such as lifting, climbing and bending.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

EDUCATION: Have a graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
AND
EXPERIENCE: Have four years of experience in the maintenance of rotary wing aircraft.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATES:

Must hold and maintain current Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant Certificate with current Federal Aviation Administration Inspection Authorization.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


  • Knowledge of aviation maintenance and repair techniques.

  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration regulations pertaining to helicopter equipment operation and maintenance.

  • Knowledge of techniques, tools and materials used to test and maintain airframe and engine components.

  • Knowledge of safety precautions taken in repairing equipment.

  • Skill in maintaining airframe and powerplant components.

  • Ability to identify and correct aircraft problems utilizing appropriate tools and equipment.

  • Ability to understand and apply manufacturing specifications and Federal aviation regulations.

  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.

  • Ability to conduct inspections and evaluate aircraft operational conditions for safety and airworthiness.

  • Ability to inspect and evaluate airframe and engine repairs in rotary wing aircraft.

  • Ability to use standard hand tools, and measuring devices, as well special tools required by the manufacturer.


EXAMINATION PROCESS
