The Department of Public Safety has ONE (1) urgent vacancy located at the Kulani Correctional Facility.

• This position REQUIRES a Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL) Class A and with NO RESTRICTIONS relating to codes E (manual transmission), I (Class C vehicle over 18,000 pounds GVWR), J (automatic or synchromesh transmission), L (air brakes), O (Class A tractor-trailer combination), and Z (full air brakes).

Duties Summary

Supervises and participates in journey level automotive repair work and performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Experience and Training: TWO (2) YEARS of JOURNEY LEVEL automotive repair work experience which involved the independent performance of the full range of mechanical and electrical maintenance, troubleshooting and repair work on motor vehicles.

Driver\'s License: Applicants must possess a valid driver\'s license at the time of appointment.

Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL): At the time of application, applicants must possess a valid Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL), Class A and have no restrictions relating to codes E (manual transmission), I (Class C vehicle over 18,000 pounds GVWR), J (automatic or synchromesh transmission), L (air brakes), O (Class A tractor-trailer combination), and Z (full air brakes).

A valid out-of-state CDL may also be accepted. If you are selected for this position, you must transfer your out-of-state CDL to a Hawaii-issued CDL prior to your employment start date and within 30 days of arriving in Hawaii. Your Hawaii-issued CDL will be verified by the hiring agency before you can start work. Please contact the Honolulu CDL Office at (808) 487-5534 for information on how to obtain a Hawaii CDL.

The Federal Department of Transportation regulations require pre-employment testing for controlled substances. If you are selected for this position, the hiring agency will notify you of when and where to report for testing.

NOTE: If a copy of your CDL is not submitted at the time of application, your application will be rejected.
Other Requirements: All applicants who are conditionally offered employment or conditionally approved for movement into this position shall be subject to drug screening, as required by Federal, State or local laws, or departmental policy; and will be subject to an intensive background check.

Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement: As required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA), Federal law states that "...an agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates and who:

(1) Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution.
(2) Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse.

(4) Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.

Supervisory Aptitude: Supervisory aptitude rather than actual supervisory experience may be accepted. This requirement will be considered to have been met when there is strong affirmative evidence of the necessary supervisory abilities and/or potential.
