Portland Mental Health & Wellness is a thriving private practice and training practice with four locations in Portland, as well as one location in Salem. We are a collaboration of psychologists, psychiatric prescribers, counselors, marriage and family therapists and our trainees. We emphasize relationship first and foremost and diagnosis and treatment from within that relationship.


We strongly emphasize trauma informed care, cultural competency, establishing comfort and safety for patients, and coordination of care with primary care doctors, specialists, pediatricians, schools, and other mental health clinicians.

The Associate Training Director has both a clinical and administrative role within the practice: they are primarily responsible for outpatient clinical services, while also managing the activities of Graduate Students in Training in their entirety.



As healers, therapists offer a range of services that support the mental and emotional well-being of individuals, families, and communities. They promote and facilitate the attainment of optimal mental health through prevention, treatment, and maintenance services.



Therapists work collaboratively with patients, their families, and other healthcare providers, recognizing that all voices are important and deserve to be heard. They provide culturally sensitive and responsive care, acknowledging the impact of historical trauma and colonization on the mental health of communities and individuals.



In their work, therapists may offer therapy services, both individual and group, that center the experiences and knowledge of patients. They prioritize the empowerment and agency of patients, recognizing their unique identities and strengths, and support them in developing and using their own coping skills and strategies.



Therapists also offer ongoing maintenance services that support the sustainability of mental and emotional well-being. They recognize the importance of long-term care and work with patients to identify and address any obstacles to maintaining their mental health.

Essential Functions:

Demonstrate an understanding of sound ethical practice in conjunction with the established and defined ethics of one's training and discipline. Be highly cognizant of their various roles and boundaries. Serve as the liaison between PMHW Training Department and doctoral externs'/masters's interns graduate programs and maintain communication regarding students' progress and any difficulties. Act as point of contact for trainees, supervisors, and programs for Graduate Student Training-related questions Creation, review, and management of Doctoral Externship and Masters Internship related Playbills Coordinate group supervision and room reservation (physical or virtual) for doctoral externs and master's interns As needed, provide administrative oversight for IOP student cases and coordinate direct observation of student clinical work in IOP Coordinate annual recruitment, application, and hiring procedures (for students) to include but not limited to: updating information about positions available with graduate programs, creating applicant rating systems, coordination for interviews, extending offers, etc. Coordinate annual supervisors selection and assignments for Graduate Student Training, including group supervisor for master's interns Coordinate with administrative staff regarding room assignments, work schedules, credentialing and other legal or insurance requirements for Graduate Student Training Coordinate with the Human Resources regarding onboarding and orientation processes for Graduate Student Training Coordinate End-of-Term evaluations for Graduate Student Training Track Key Performance Indicators for externs and address any issues related to performance Coordination with individual supervisors regarding any Developmental Action Plan (DAP) activities Facilitate exit interviews for Graduate Student Training Ongoing review, analysis, and improvement for the overall health, success, and sustainability of Graduate Student Training Perform other duties as assigned

Provision of Supervision:

+ Weekly group supervision for Doctoral Externs or Master's Interns (depending on degree type of manger)
+ Individual supervision for at least one extern or intern

Meeting Participation:

+ Bi-Weekly check-in with Director of Clinical Training
+ Bi-Weekly check-in with Director of IOP
+ Weekly Training Department Meeting
+ Bi-Monthly Training Committee Meeting
+ Bi-weekly Licensed Supervision Consult group
+ Bi-weekly Management Team DEAI meeting

Outpatient Clinical Encounter Expectations:

The Associate Training Director is required to complete at least 161 qualifying encounters in a 13 week calendar quarter, which is equivalent to a minimum of 14 encounters per week. This calculation presumes a practitioner is working 11.5 weeks of the 13 week quarter. Practitioners can always choose to complete more than 14 encounters per week, but the minimum expectation is at least 14 completed encounters per week.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: a doctoral or master's degree in a relevant professional field including psychology, social work, counseling, or marriage and family therapy Required: appropriate board approved licensing, current and unrestricted Demonstrate competence and humility in terms of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, class, ability et al Demonstrate commitment to the preservation of a workplace which embraces diversity Demonstrate commitment to confidentiality of patient and employee information Communicate professionally and effectively with patients and clinicians Demonstrate a strong attention to detail and organization Demonstrate patience: being patient with people who may have trouble communicating or understanding what is happening Follow policies and procedures to contribute to the administrative efficiency of the practice, taking initiative to suggest and develop those that may be needed Ability to work with Mac OS & Google Workspace

Equipment Operated:

Standard office equipment, including computers, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

Work Environment:

When working from a PMHW office, the position is in a well-lit office environment. Varied activities including sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting.

Mental and Physical Requirements:

Involves sitting approximately 90 percent of the day, walking or standing the remainder. Ability to tolerate mental and emotional distress as an anticipated aspect of the position. May require working under stressful conditions.
