As an incoming Associate Director, you may start as early as November and as late as May. If you can start sooner, you'll start on our hiring and onboarding team, taking an active role in hiring our 70-person community for the 2026 summer. Here, you'll have the opportunity to

shape the camp's culture and success

through recruitment, applications, and onboarding, alongside other yearly administration tasks. You'll also build connections with the other directors and year-round leadership.

In the summer, you'll work closely with the 3-person director team to ensure a healthy staff culture and strong camper experience. Your first year will be a lot of learning - as Camp Augusta is a camp of unique programs, high expectations, and an abundance of processes - though you'll also be expected to learn quickly and hold responsibilities independently. Your work will directly impact the effectiveness of our summer and off-season programs, making this role critical to the long-term success of Camp Augusta. This is a leadership role for someone who enjoys

a blend of administrative responsibility and hands-on program management

, with a focus on people and culture leadership, process improvement, and community-building.

Key Responsibilities:

Community Leadership:

Oversee staff training and provide mentorship and accountability throughout the camp season. Help foster a positive and collaborative environment where staff feel empowered to excel in their roles. Help them lean into challenge and growth, and hold high expectations for those that you supervise.

Big-Picture Program Development

: Use feedback from campers, staff, and past seasons to implement creative innovations and drive continuous improvement in our camp experience. Collaborate with camp leadership to evaluate and refine activities, processes, and the overall camper experience.

Off-Season Role:

From September to April, you'll play a key role in hiring and training new staff - refining programs based on past experiences. You may also support camper registration for the upcoming season.

Community Building:

As a leader, you'll be an integral part of creating a supportive, fun, and growth-oriented camp culture for both staff and campers, helping everyone thrive.

What We're Looking For:

Summer Camp Experience:

At least

4 seasons

of experience at a residential summer camp.

At least

2 seasons

in an upper leadership position,

that deals with 'high level' camp issues (strong preference for year-round work in preparing for the next year of camp)

Stamina:

This job requires

80-ish hour weeks for the 5 main months of 'camp season'.We want people who have worked that before (preferably recently), and thrived in it. Following the season, you'll have about 1 month of vacation time.

Administrative Skills:

A love for systems, processes, and logistics. You are detail-oriented, yet able to keep an eye on the big picture, constantly improving operations and camp activities. Strong proficiency and experience in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel) and Google Suite are required.

Passion:

A strong commitment to creating meaningful experiences for youth and staff, with a positive energy that carries into those around you.

Leadership:

An ability to lead and inspire a diverse team, mentoring both staff and campers with empathy, energy, and professionalism - in the fun times and the challenges.
