Stories Illuminated is looking for an Associate Designer to create magic with us using light, sound, video, and special effects. We develop experiences and attractions for clients including Netflix, Paramount, Disney, MTV, Meta, Samsung, Absolut, The Magic Castle, Google, and The Wynn Las Vegas. This position is responsible for assisting Designers on projects and may take on the role of Designer as needed/appropriate. Associate Designers assist on assigned projects, ensuring the design has adequate support to be successful and that project designs run smoothly. They support our team to keep projects on budget, keep clients satisfied, and keep Stories Illuminated growing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Draft and render project deliverables and execute project tasks as assigned by the project lead. Participate in internal creative deck review and design development meetings both internal and client-facing. Schedule and manage creative or logistical meetings. Attend production meetings either in person or via teleconferencing. Assist with generating proposals and RFPs for bid consideration. Draft lighting and production plots and schematics in VectorWorks. Create visual renderings as directed. Work within project budgets, and track expenses throughout the life of a given project as assigned by the Project Lead and supervised by the Operations Manager. Assist with coordinating production logistics including rentals, deliveries, labor needs, and creative deadlines. This may include hands-on work in-office and on show-site. Assist in sourcing and specifying materials, products, fixtures, etc. for projects and designs for both rentals and sales applications. Provide on-site internal support as well as client-facing support as needed. Provide On-site and Off-site client support and troubleshooting. Cultivate potential clients and projects whenever possible. Work in office or on job sites to execute designs in any capacity needed but not limited to prepping, setting up or dressing equipment. Assist with programming equipment as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS

Associates Degree (AA) or higher in a theatrical, architectural or film/television design discipline, or minimum two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Deep experience in one of the following required: Architectural, Live Event, Install Systems & Integration, Television/Film, Experiential Marketing, Concerts Proficient in VectorWorks 2025 or later Experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, and Google Suite preferred
Required skills:

Interest in all design disciplines including audio, projections, special effects, with an emphasis on lighting design. Experience in one of the following required, Experience in multiple is a plus: Architectural (if education/ other experience is in an entertainment-based field), Live Event, Install Systems and Integration, Television/Film, Experiential Marketing, Concerts. Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible manner, both verbal and written. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Friendly and trustworthy demeanor Collaborative-driven individual well versed with working on interdisciplinary teams. Ability to learn quickly and adapt in a fast-paced environment. Competent in prioritizing tasks. Ability to work with little direct supervision. Self-motivated and trustworthy. Comfortable with client-facing interaction involving face to face meetings and digital correspondence as directed by the project lead. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds / frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds / continually lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Preferred Skills:

Lightboard Programming such as ETC EOS, Grand MA, etc. Familiarity with ETC Mosaic, ETC Paradigm, Resolume, Touch Designer.
