Position Summary:

The UCI School of Medicine is dedicated to advancing medical knowledge and clinical practice through scholarly research, education, and high-quality clinical care. The School oversees the education and training of medical students and graduate students at the UCI School of Medicine, ranked as one of the top 50 U.S. medical schools for research by U.S. News & World Report. We are dedicated to advancing medical knowledge and clinical practice by offering a rich educational environment. We nurture the development of medical students, resident physicians and scholars in the clinical and basic sciences and support the dissemination of research advances for the benefit of society. Each year, we educate more than 400 medical students and train more than 700 residents and fellows at UCI Health facilities and affiliated institutions. The medical school\'s 915 full- and part-time and 753 volunteer faculty members are involved in teaching, providing care and conducting research into the health challenges facing the 21st century. The school has 24 departments, ranging from basic science research to clinical medical and surgical specialties. It has research, clinical and teaching relationships with the VA Long Beach Healthcare System and Childrens Hospital of Orange County (CHOC).

The Associate Dean for Administration and Finance serves as the senior administrative officer, chief operating officer, and chief financial officer of the School of Medicine (SOM) reporting to the Dean of the University of California Irvine School of Medicine. The incumbent is responsible for the entire scope of planning, operations, and resource management for the School, involving its instructional, research, and administrative functions. Incumbent is responsible to provide oversight for the Enterprise-wide Clinical Integration (CI), ensuring successful financial and operational interaction between the School and UCI Health. The Associate Dean works directly with the Dean in defining and prioritizing specific needs related to the School\'s academic mission and in developing objectives and strategies to meet those needs. Directs and plans all financial operations, oversees technology support operations for both administrative and instructional computing; provides leadership for management of all space, facilities, and capital needs; management responsibility for all human resources issues (both academic and staff) in the School. The Associate Dean is the senior administrator and acts for the Dean in his absence for administrative and financial matters.

Required:

  • Minimum 10 years senior-executive management experience in healthcare or academic medicine required. Managerial experience in a university medical school preferred.
  • Bachelor\'s degree in related area required.
  • Exceptional leadership skills to oversee multiple departments and / or centers and / or institutes through subordinate senior managers.
  • Strong institutional, managerial and professional knowledge of higher education and administrative management.
  • Expert knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, accounting principles, forecasting, budgeting, audit and internal control systems.
  • Superb interpersonal skills to lead, facilitate relationships, collaborate, persuade and influence. Highly advanced negotiating skills. Expert analytical, organizational, problem solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to apply logic and good judgment in decision making. Highly sophisticated skills in strategy development, systems planning and change management.
  • Highly advanced HR administration skills. Expert project management skills, including the ability to manage capital projects.

  • Evidence to establish priorities and allocate resources among those priorities to achieve results in a multi-purpose, multi-unit, multi-site system.

  • Advanced degree preferred.
