Support Facilities Section's mission to maintain all departmental structures and property. Under the general supervision of the Lieutenant, the Associate Architect manages projects, prepares programming, designs and constructs documents for various improvements including capital outlay and special repair projects within state owned and leased buildings. Prepares computer assisted and hand drafted preliminary designs with tenants, building managers, building engineers, engineering consultants and/or other design consultants. Conducts on-site inspections of existing conditions to determine feasibility of proposed improvements. Ensures designs meet all Title 24 Building Standards and Requirements as well as compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act guidelines. Serves as project manager on more complex capital outlay or special repair projects. Evaluates existing building deficiencies including fire life and safety and ADA and makes correction recommendations. Assists with problem solving or troubleshooting issues that arise during construction and makes recommendations to management. Assists unit staff with design and construction technology, architectural standards and practices, reviews plans and specifications and makes corrections and or suggestions.
