POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Tribal Manager, the Assistant Tribal Manager will directly oversee the operations of multiple Tribal Government Departments and services. This position focuses on coordinating interdepartmental activities, monitoring performance, supporting and managing department directors/managers, and ensuring projects and services are delivered efficiently and in alignment with the Executive Council's directives. This position places a strong emphasis on personnel support, leadership development, and fostering a positive work environment across all departments, while also ensuring alignment with Bay Mills Indian Community's priorities and organizational goals.




ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:





1.

Departmental Operations Support





a. Direct management of various governmental departments to ensure day-to-day operations are running efficiently.



b. Monitor departmental activities to ensure alignment with Tribal policies, regulations, and community priorities.



c. Assist with resolving operational challenges quickly and effectively.



2.

Interdepartmental Coordination





a. Facilitate communication and cooperation between departments.



b. Help coordinate multi-department initiatives, events, and community programs.



c. Identify opportunities for departments to share resources and improve efficiency.



3.

Staff & Leadership Support





a. Provide guidance and support to department directors and supervisors in managing their teams.



b. Encourage a positive, collaborative work environment across departments.



c. Step in to assist in departmental leadership when needed.



4.

Policy & Procedure Implementation





a. Support the Tribal Manager in implementing Executive Council directives.



b. Help ensure consistency in following Tribal policies and operational standards.



5.

Representation & Liaison





a. Represent the Tribal Manager in meetings, community events, and collaborative initiatives when requested.



b. Serve as a point of contact for departments needing leadership input in the Tribal Manager's absence.



6.

Monitoring & Feedback





a. Observe department operations and provide feedback to the Tribal Manager on successes, challenges, and needs.



b. Assist in gathering input from staff and community members on ways to improve services.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

:



While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit with occasional standing and walking. Occasionally the employee must bend, balance, squat, kneel, push/pull, and crouch. The employee is occasionally required to use hands for firm manipulation and reach with hands and arms above shoulder level. The employee must be able to lift, move, and/or carry up to 25 pounds.




POSITION REQUIREMENTS:





1. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field required; Master's degree or pursuing one preferred.



2. Minimum of five (5) years' experience in a supervisory role required; Tribal government experience preferred.



3. Demonstrated work history reflecting strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.



4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, and related office software. Must be able to create and maintain spreadsheets, develop reports, and utilize other relevant office software to support daily operations and ensure efficient workflow.


5. Demonstrated experience in developing, monitoring, and managing budgets to ensure responsible use of funds and compliance with organizational and funding requirements. Must have identifiable experience with tracking expenditures, preparing financial reports, and analyzing financial data. Required experience with grant management, including monitoring grant-funded projects and ensuring adherence to grant terms and reporting requirements.



6. Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments and with diverse stakeholders.



7. Required knowledge of Tribal governance structures, including the roles and functions of Tribal administration and leadership, as well as familiarity with best practices for engaging and collaborating with Tribal communities.



8. Must attend all necessary and required trainings as needed.


9. Flexible schedule and ability to travel as needed.



10. Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment.



11. Dependable, adaptable, and able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
