Job Summary:



The

Assistant Survey Project Manager

plays a key role in managing survey projects from start to finish, ensuring that survey activities are conducted accurately, efficiently, and on time. This role blends technical survey responsibilities with project management functions, supporting senior project managers in overseeing project execution, budget management, resource allocation, and client communication. The ideal candidate will be an experienced surveyor with strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities:



Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of survey projects, ensuring that project timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met. Act as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and stakeholders, providing regular project updates and addressing client concerns or inquiries. Assist the Survey Project Manager in developing project scope, objectives, and detailed plans, ensuring proper resource allocation and task delegation. Monitor project progress and performance, ensuring that field operations, data collection, and office work adhere to established project timelines and budgets. Coordinate and supervise survey teams, ensuring all staff understand project goals, safety protocols, and specific client requirements. Perform quality control checks on field data and survey documentation, ensuring completeness and compliance with industry standards. Use survey software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS) to process and analyze collected data, and assist in preparing survey reports, drawings, and sketches for project deliverables. Prepare detailed survey reports, drawings, and other project-related documentation, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Maintain and organize both electronic and physical survey data files and documentation, ensuring proper record-keeping and compliance with company standards. Communicate directly with clients, project managers, and stakeholders, ensuring that project progress, budget, and timeline expectations are met. Provide timely updates to clients and internal teams regarding survey findings, project delays, or any changes in scope. Assist in preparing project proposals, bids, and cost estimates for new survey work, working closely with senior management and clients to ensure the scope aligns with project needs. Support the coordination of field resources, equipment, and personnel to ensure effective survey operations on-site. Assist in the development and management of project schedules, ensuring all tasks are completed according to project timelines. Track survey expenses, including labor, equipment, and materials, ensuring projects stay within budget. Ensure survey activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards, including ALTA/NSPS, land title surveys, and construction surveying standards. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior surveyors, technicians, and field staff, ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities. Lead by example, promoting a culture of safety, accuracy, and efficiency in both field and office work. Assist in training junior staff on advanced surveying techniques, data collection methods, and survey software. Assist licensed survey staff with boundary resolution.

Qualifications:



Experience:

2+ years specific Department of Transportation (LADOTD) survey experience. Preparing project proposals, cost estimates, survey reports, and regulatory compliance and survey standards.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or a related field preferred. Surveyor-in-Training (SIT) certification preferred but not required.

Technical Skills:

Strong technical knowledge of surveying principles, methods, and equipment, including advanced proficiency in total stations, GPS units, and survey software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS) and field equipment.

Communication:

Exceptional communication skills to interact effectively with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.

Organizational Skills:

Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Adaptability:

Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks

Problem-Solving:

Ability to solve problems, make decisions in the field, and adapt to changing project needs and conditions.

Team Player:

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing both field and office responsibilities.

Physical Requirements:



Comfortable working outdoors in varied terrain and weather conditions. Frequent walking, standing, kneeling, and bending in both field and office settings. Ability to work extended hours, including weekends and/or evenings, as necessary (based on project demands). Ability to lift and move heavy survey equipment and materials (over 50 pounds). Ability to perform continuous outdoor work, including exposure to noise, dust, heat, cold, solvents, fumes, and heavy equipment. Ability to stand, walk, kneel, sit, and perform physical activities for extended periods. Ability to work with flexible hours based on project schedules.

Pay: From $24.00 per hour
