The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Utah (

) invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position with research and teaching focus in the area of advanced manufacturing, with an anticipated start date in Fall 2026. Candidates will be considered with research expertise in

advanced and next-generation manufacturing

, including smart manufacturing (e.g. cloud computing for manufacturing, digital twins, autonomous manufacturing); digital manufacturing (e.g., model-based systems engineering, process simulation & digitalization); AI-driven manufacturing (e.g. manufacturing informatics, AI for manufacturing process design & control, AI for materials discovery & manufacturing); supply chain innovations (Internet of Things (IoT), accelerating discovery-to-insertion timelines); and other relevant or emerging areas of advanced manufacturing.

Candidates must have a demonstrated track record of high-quality research as evidenced by scholarly publications and must exhibit strong potential (junior faculty) or an established record (senior faculty) of securing extramural funding. Successful candidates will be expected to actively contribute to the Department's growing research presence in manufacturing and will be able to leverage a variety of advanced manufacturing technologies. Applicants are expected to have an earned Ph.D. or Sc.D. in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has experienced tremendous growth over the past decade, fueled by the State of Utah's Engineering Initiative, and currently houses more than 45 tenure-line faculty members, over 1,500 undergraduate and 250 graduate students (140 PhD students).
