We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Georgia-licensed attorney with 3-5 years experience to support our legal team in providing high-quality legal representation to indigent clients in need. This role offers an opportunity to work within a dynamic legal environment, providing criminal defense for indigent clients charged with felonies in Habersham County. The Assistant Public Defender will play a crucial role in case preparation, legal research, and courtroom support, ensuring justice and fair representation for all clients. Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other legal research tools provided to support case strategies across multiple aspects of criminal law and procedure.
Draft legal documents including motions, pleadings, briefs, and other litigation-related paperwork with strong legal drafting skills.
Prepare case files by organizing evidence, reviewing client histories, and summarizing pertinent information.
Attend court proceedings in person and virtually as required.
Engage in client interviews to gather relevant information for case development.
Maintain accurate records of case activities and ensure compliance with all procedural requirements.
Collaborate with district attorneys on negotiation strategies for settlement discussions or plea bargains.
Stay informed about current laws and regulations relevant to public defense work across various legal disciplines.

Excellent research skills with the ability to analyze complex legal issues effectively.
Superior writing skills for drafting clear and concise legal documents.
