Position Description:


The History Department of DePaul University invites applications for an assistant professor specializing in European history with an expertise in Russia, the USSR, or Eastern Europe for a tenure track position to begin September 2026. The candidate will be responsible for teaching in these areas and for developing new courses that will appeal to students in the candidate's areas of specialty. The faculty will be expected to teach in the History Department, as well as the University's interdisciplinary programs like the Chicago Quarter, Honors, and the First Year Program.


Qualifications:


The candidate must have a PhD in history or a related field required by September 2026. The department seeks excellence in instruction, research, and service and seeks someone who will look forward to taking on administrative responsibilities at some point in their careers.

Applicants must submit a cover letter; curriculum vitae; a syllabus; and three letters of recommendation, at least one of which should speak directly to the applicant's teaching experience; and an example of the candidate's scholarship. Teaching evaluations would also be helpful for evaluating the candidate's portfolio.

About DePaul University's Academic Calendar



Except for the College of Law, DePaul University operates on a quarter system. Classes in Autumn, Winter, and Spring quarters are 11 weeks in length (including finals week) and Summer courses, in two sessions, are typically 5 weeks in length. The College of Law operates on the semester system. Classes in the Fall and Spring semesters are 16 weeks in length (including finals week) and it offers a Summer Session of 7 weeks (including final exams).






Salary Information:

The salary range for this 10-month position is $70,500 - $72,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience
