The Department of Agricultural Economics and Economics at Montana State University is hiring a tenure-track faculty member whose work focuses on the economics of agricultural production and farm management. General Statement
MSU was founded in 1893 as the Agricultural College of the State of Montana. Today, the College of Agriculture is an integral part of fulfilling MSU's land grant mission serving the sons and daughters of our state. The Montana Agricultural Experiment Station (MAES) creates opportunities for students and faculty to excel through hands-on learning; to serve through campus and community engagement; to explore unique solutions to distinct and interesting questions; and to connect Montanans with the global community.
Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality teaching of DAEE undergraduate agricultural business, economics, and financial engineering courses and possibly master's level courses.
• Their scholarship will result in publications in leading disciplinary peer-reviewed journals.
• The area of scholarship for this position will focus on the economics of agricultural production, with opportunities to explore related fields in farm management, precision agriculture, energy economics, and financial risk/econometrics.
• Advise undergraduate and graduate students and participate in the department's tradition of outreach to state, national, and global audiences.
• The positions consist of 45% teaching (3 courses per year), 45% scholarship, and 10% service and is funded by 50% appointment with the Montana Agricultural Experiment Station (MAES) and 50% College of Agriculture appointment.

Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills * Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics or Economics or related field prior to the starting date.

• Strong potential for effectiveness in teaching, scholarship, and outreach/service.
• Demonstrated interest in scholarship relevant to commercial agriculture, applicable to commercial agriculture in Montana, especially in the following research areas: production economics, farm/ranch management, agricultural marketing, precision agriculture, energy economics, and financial risk management.

Preferred Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills * Demonstrated success in scholarship and teaching.

• Scholarship and outreach interests that contribute to the MAES mission.
• Strength in economic theory and quantitative analysis.

DAEE faculty often obtain extramural grant funding. The department offers undergraduate degrees in agricultural business, economics, and financial engineering, with undergraduate majors numbering about 400, and a rigorous, highly respected master's degree in applied economics, graduating an average of 6-8 students per year.
