General Description - Purpose of Role

As an Assistant Product Manager, you'll play a critical role in driving Backyard Discovery's product innovation and execution -- supporting every stage of the product life cycle, from concept through launch and beyond. This is a hands-on role for someone who loves to work in the details, thrives on organization, and wants to see their ideas turn into real products in backyards across the country.

You'll collaborate closely with our Product, Marketing, Engineering, and Customer Experience teams to ensure every product delivers exceptional quality, value, and design. This is an ideal opportunity for a recent college graduate with strong analytical skills and a bias for action who's ready to grow quickly in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment.

Bachelor's degree required -- ideally in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Engineering, or related fields.


Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational and project management skills. Strong written and verbal communication; able to clearly communicate with technical and creative teams. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook). Analytical mindset with a bias toward results and continuous improvement. Self-starter who can manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Passion for product development, consumer goods, or outdoor living a plus!

Essential Functions

Product Development & Execution

Support all phases of product development and product line maintenance. Manage requests for new items, packaging design/approvals, and sample coordination. Assist in copywriting, sales bulletin creation, product sell sheets, and assembly instruction audits. Coordinate activities with digital platforms (M-Files, BILT, etc.). Manage and organize photo samples; assist with photoshoots and content creation for product pages and videos.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Serve as a Product Champion for assigned categories, working closely with Marketing to develop and refine content, imagery, and product messaging. Collaborate across teams -- Marketing, Engineering, Sales, and Operations -- to ensure product readiness and alignment on key initiatives. Partner with Customer Service on product training and insights sharing.

Market Research & Analytics

Maintain a research library including competitive intelligence, consumer trends, and industry data. Regularly share curated insights and marketplace updates with the broader team. Participate in product life cycle management activities (SKU rationalization, dashboard cleanup, master product lists, etc.).

Project Ownership

Take initiative on special projects, owning timelines, deliverables, and cross-functional communication. Proactively identify opportunities to streamline processes or enhance customer experience. Support the Product Manager in preparing presentations, performance reports, and launch recaps.
