Responsible for assisting in the supervision and direction of all activities relating to indoor or outdoor municipal swimming pools and/or water parks operations.

DUTIES



Serve as lead for the lifeguard staff, including but not limited to, proper safety training, rule enforcement, and life guarding skills to ensure the safety of all guests. Administer first aid to guests, as needed. Serve as a lifeguard, as needed. Respond to and resolve customer issues and/or requests in a courteous and professional manner; notify leadership immediately if not able to resolve customer concerns. Ensure the pool and surrounding areas are cleaned and maintained daily; assist in maintenance and cleaning of the pool, daily. Conduct and record daily staff rotations. Complete and file daily operation logs. Perform job functions and act as Pool Manager in their absence.

SUPERVISORY/BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with selection, training, supervising, and evaluating staff; recommend assignment/assignment change, retention, discipline, and dismissal.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS



One (1) season of lifeguard experience ; and, Red Cross or American Heart Association Adult CPR, AED & First Aid Certification designated timeframe outlined for program (online training is not valid); and, Three (3) months of supervisory experience; and, Ability to pass a water skills test,

Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws parks and recreation. Knowledge of lifeguarding procedures. Knowledge of leisure, social, health and legal needs of individuals with disabilities at all age levels. Knowledge of CPR/AED first aid procedures. Knowledge of childhood development that supports recreational activities that are organized, age appropriate and maintain interest. Skill in problem solving; identifying problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Skill at the beginner level, working with Microsoft Office 365, and other software systems to complete work. Skill in providing exceptional service to internal and external customers. Skill in interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy. Ability to motivate children and provide appropriate guidance and behavior management. Ability to take charge and identify solutions quickly in emergency situations. Ability to lead and motivate others. Ability to work independently to manage multiple work tasks while balancing competing priorities with attention to detail and in a fast-paced environment. Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and confidentiality. Ability to communicate effectively, both in oral and written forms, for the needs of the audience. Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing work environment to facilitate/accomplish needed activities. Ability to develop, understand, interpret, and apply rules, policies, and procedures operations. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems. Ability to prepare and maintain reports.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Must have and maintain a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law). Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification. Must pass a physical examination. Must have completed and be in good standing with the American Red Cross and have current lifeguard training. Must obtain, if not possessed, valid Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification within first 6 months of employment. Must have or obtain Red Cross Adult CPR, AED & First Aid Certification designated timeframe outlined for program (online training is not valid). Must be at least seventeen (17) years of age. Must pass water skills test.

SAFETY



Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; ensure equipment is in safe operating condition. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Promptly report unsafe conditions in work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Safety Sensitive (Subject to random drug testing): Yes. Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; rescue tubes, backboard, shepherd's crook, whistle, hip pack, resuscitation mask and other first aid supplies, pool chemicals and testing kits, pool cleaning supplies. Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions; occasional reaching. Lifting: lifting no more than100 pounds and carrying up to 50 pounds. Environment: Works inside and outside with exposure to inclement weather, noise, debris, odor, and chemicals; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours. Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required. Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. + Must be able to work overtime or outside of normal business hours, as required.
+ Must be available for position trainings during the designated timeframe outlined for program.
+ Must be able to obtain Adult and Pediatric CPR, AED and First Aid certification by the designated timeframe outlined for program.
+ Must be able to work the designated summer seasonal program schedule, dates will adjust annually, Monday - Friday with shift times varying between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.
+ Must work the Citywide special event, date will adjust annually.
+ Must be able to work on a rotating schedule seven (7) days per week.
Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
