This position is eligible for OITS's hybrid work program. The candidate must work in the office three days a week. The supervisor and business needs will determine the hybrid schedule.
Compensation:
Annual Salary/Hourly Rate: $100,000 - $115,000

Position Summary:
The Assistant IT Architect supports the Chief Information Technology Architect (CITA) in shaping statewide technology strategy and ensuring that IT systems, platforms, and processes align with the business goals of the State of Kansas. This position plays a key role in developing architectural frameworks, evaluating emerging technologies, guiding agencies toward future-state architectures, and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of statewide IT operations.
The role engages frequently with state agencies, vendors, and leadership to provide consultation, oversight, and strategic recommendations on complex and dynamic enterprise technology issues.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the CITA in researching and recommending enterprise architecture strategies, policies, standards, and best practices.
Support development of short- and long-term technology strategies that align with statewide goals.
Recommend transition strategies from current-state to future-state environments.
Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate needs into technical solutions or architectural roadmaps.
Identify opportunities to innovate and improve enterprise technology efficiency.
Use business information models and reporting tools to present current-state and future-state views of the IT landscape.
Maintain various enterprise reporting environments.
Assist in preparing and finalizing statewide reporting requirements, including the annual 3-Year IT Plan and KARS submissions.
Complete special assignments and enterprise technology projects as designated.
Help organize ITEC (Information Technology Executive Council) meetings.
Participate in or lead policy creation, review, and maintenance activities.
Required Skills
:
Strong understanding of enterprise architecture principles, frameworks, and methodologies (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman).
Expertise across multiple IT domains such as cloud computing, data analytics, cybersecurity, networking, and software development.
Knowledge of identity access management, encryption, and security architecture.
Ability to analyze complex systems and provide well-supported recommendations.
Proficiency with business process modeling, workflow automation, and enterprise development methodologies (Agile, DevOps, Waterfall).
Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Ability to lead initiatives, guide teams, and foster a culture of knowledge sharing.
Minimum Qualifications
:
Ten (10) years' direct experience designing, developing, implementing, and managing complex IT systems or solutions.
Experience leading teams or cross-functional projects.
Experience with system integration, data and application architecture, infrastructure design, and cloud platforms.
Experience evaluating third-party vendors and ensuring alignment with architectural standards.
Experience developing and enforcing architectural standards, guidelines, and best practices.
Ability to obtain and retain an OITS Security and KCJIS clearances are requirement of employment and continued employment.
