The University of South Dakota is hiring an Assistant Director for the Academic Advising and Success Center. The Assistant Director will provide advice to the director on policies and procedures surrounding academic advising and academic success services. The Assistant Director position will involve a blend of administrative responsibilities, direct student interaction, and team management.
Academic Advising: The position will provide academic advising to a caseload of students. At USD, advisors help students create both short-term schedules for each semester and long-term plans for graduation. Advisors are responsible for knowing the academic requirements, policies, and procedures in the academic catalog and to communicate them effectively to students. Advisors also work closely with faculty, staff, and administrators to insure the inclusion and success of each student.
Learning Assistance Services: This position will oversee all learning assistance services offered through the Academic Advising and Success Center, to include learning specialists, tutoring programs, and supplemental instruction. These services are designed to help students address their learning needs, identify tailored support strategies, and assist them to perform at their peak academically. The Assistant Director will provide direct supervision to a team of employees and will ensure that the proper programs and services are being offered to meet the needs of students and the goals of the Center.
Student Success Platform Administrator: This role serves as an Administrator for USD's student success software, EAB Navigate360. The Administrator collaborates with constituents across campus to promote, facilitate, and support use of the system.
A Masters degree is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed graduate coursework in Counseling, Psychology, Education, or a related field. Substantial experience working in higher education is also required. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate strong communication, decision making, and strategic planning skills as well as the potential to successfully manage a team. They will also demonstrate an ability to collaborate with faculty and departments across campus. Experience with academic success programs and a familiarity with campus software programs is a plus.
