Position Summary

The Assistant Director, Assistive Technology serves as Disability Resource\xe2\x80\x99s primary assistive technology and technology expert. They lead in development of services, policies, and procedures related to Assistive Technology (AT), and text remediation services for disabled students receiving accommodations through Disability Resources. Responsible for the completion and fulfillment of alternate format text and media needs and notetaking for disabled students, the manager offers direct services and oversight necessary to coordinate these efforts, and is responsible for the associated programmatic and administrative duties. They directly provide, and oversee staff and student-staff in the provision of consultative support, training, and services to disabled students in the use of various assistive technologies. The Assistant Director promotes accessibility awareness and Universal Design through networking, training, and collaboration with others in the campus community.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversees day-to-day operations of DR\xe2\x80\x99s AT services, including the provision of expert-level guidance to staff and student-staff under their management.
  • Advises DR leadership on policy and procedures, procurement, and assessment as related to AT and the accessibility of technology utilized by students.
  • Evaluates, tests, and recommends potential AT acquisitions by DR, and in collaboration with leadership, develops and implements programmatic initiatives which contribute to short and long term objectives.
  • Coordinates Transliteration and Interpreting requests and assignments, and text remediation services, by working with appropriate 3rd party vendors/contractors.
  • Provides supervision and training of DR staff/student staff regarding AT and text remediation activities.
  • Participates in DR\xe2\x80\x99s accommodation determination process, including but not exclusively with regard to AT, communication services, and text remediation.
  • Performs other duties as necessary to ensure the department\xe2\x80\x99s compliance to meet federal, state, and local regulations; University expectations, and Divisional/Departmental objectives.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree from an accredited institution in Assistive Technology, Instructional Technology, Occupational Therapy, Counseling, Disability Studies, Education or Special Education, Psychology, or related field.
  • Three to five years of experience coordinating adaptive technology in a University or higher education setting.
  • Certifications in areas of Assistive Technology.
  • Experience with electronic disability resource management systems, such as Aim, Accommodate, or Clockwork.
  • Demonstrable expertise with commonly utilized adaptive technologies, including but not limited to: Screen Readers (e.g., Kurzweil, JAWS), Speech-to-Text software, Brailling software and hardware, as well as those provided within standard operating systems on PC, Mac, Tablet, and smart phone devices.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations regarding postsecondary education and disabilities, including: ADA as amended, Fair Housing Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and FERPA.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree and three years of related experience or Master\'s degree and one year of related experience.

Salary Range

$50,500.00 - $86,200.00 / Annually The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one\'s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
