Position Announcement
Utah Valley University is currently seeking an Assistant Dean in the Woodbury School of Business (WSB)! Working under the direction of the Dean, facilitates the administration of programs and activities in their respective colleges including faculty/student interactions, student professional organizations, judicial affairs, academic programs and guidelines, programs affecting student, faculty, and/or staff employee performance and concerns, graduation standards, and any other program and activity specific to their respective school or college. Directs the strategic and administrative operations supporting their respective school or college.
Summary of Responsibilities
  • 20% Assists with aspects of student advisement and coordinates with Academic Advisors in order to meet the University\xe2\x80\x99s academic goals and standards. Evaluates curriculum offerings and recommends how advisory resources will be allocated according to the strategic plans of the school or college. Develops strategic plans to encourage students toward matriculation and eventual graduation. Counsels department leaders as they develop plans to guide students toward their career objectives. Coordinates with department chairs and staff regarding internship programs. Coordinates with other staff and prepares annual and other accreditation reports (AACSB) as needed.
  • 20% Participates on various university committees as assigned by college leaders. May address faculty concerns in collaboration with department chairs and other academic leaders. Manages and tracks committee assignments as necessary. May serve as committee chair or consultant in establishing guidelines and procedures/guidelines for academic programs. May also act as primary advisor to the university\xe2\x80\x99s Academic Advisory Leadership Council (AALC) responsible for creating and implementing academic standards.
  • 15% Coordinates student recruitment activities and collaborates with Academic Advisors and departmental or school or college staff regarding marketing, publicity, and outreach programs and activities. Serves as subject matter expert regarding academic opportunities and programs. May coordinate with other staff in monitoring the creation of and maintenance of the school or college website and other media related to publicizing college programs. Supervises the process of reviewing and approving student scholarships.
  • 15% Assists with the development of the annual budget for each academic year. Recommends additions and/or changes to position budget approval (PBA) requests. Advises college leaders regarding the preparation and administration of departmental and program budgets. Assists college and department leaders to define their academic and program priorities and reports on the status of funded activities and projects.
  • 10% Assists college leaders in developing and coordinating strategic academic program goals and objectives and facilitates strategic academic curricula of the respective school or college. Collaborates with other university leaders regarding the academic role of the respective school or college within the University. Reviews the class schedule for the academic year and evaluates how class offerings will compliment academic plans. Advises department leaders regarding faculty teaching assignments and guides them with respect to changes with academic curricula. Monitors the progress of faculty, staff, and students roles compared to college goals and academic objectives. Evaluates the need for organizational changes and facilitates curriculum changes as necessary.
  • 10% Facilitates the development of programs related to faculty and student research and service-learning. Assists in writing grant proposals and with post award administration. Assists in monitoring grant funding and reports how grants are being used/spent. Recommends updates to spending plans and coordinates updates with the appropriate oversight entities.
  • 10% Perform other job related duties as assigned by the dean.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in a discipline directly related to the specific college and 2 years evidence of progressive academic and administrative experience with a record of successful people management.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities
  • Must have knowledge of accreditation standards (i.e. AACSB) and evaluation processes.
  • Must have knowledge of University judicial standards regarding students, curriculum processes, recruitment activities, federal grant processes including budgetary reporting requirements.
  • Must have content knowledge regarding Woodbury School programs and courses.
  • Must be familiar and skilled with the use of personal computers, including Microsoft Windows operating systems and software and any other applications required in the school or college.
  • Must demonstrate how to organize and manage academic resources and how to prioritize resources in an environment where demands constantly exceed available resources.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with many constituencies in diverse communities ranging from students to corporate executives.
  • Must show the ability to conduct internal/institutional research and publish analytical reports to inform the strategic planning process.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to make difficult decisions and properly respond to sensitive situations.
